God's Wonders

This afternoon, we had a large thunderstorm. We had been out shopping. When we got near our home, we looked into the sky and saw the most beautiful rainbow there ever has been. By the time my husband got out of the truck, into the house to get his camera, and back out where he could take the picture, it was disappearing under the clouds. The other side was much prettier, but it was almost hid by the dark clouds coming over, so this is mostly what we got.

But, isn't God good to show us beauty in the skies! Man could never recreate what God has shown us through the sun and rain - the seven beautiful colors that shine so bright.

Matthew Henry has this to say:

It was appointed as a witness of the divine faithfulness (Gen. 9:12-17). It existed indeed before, but it was then constituted as a sign of the covenant.

Genesis 9:14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
Genesis 9:15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
Genesis 9:16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
Genesis 9:17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

I Am From

I am from wash boards, wash pots, well water, and cow’s milk. I am from Granny’s homemade bread, quilts, and rocking chairs. I am from the Singer sewing machine, the serger, needles and thread, sewing rooms and basement. I am from custom drapes, cornices, and all things beautiful.

I am from a small town, crooked country roads, railroad tracks, and farm land. I am from the coal miner, carpenter, cabinet builder, the seamstress, the lady, and my home. I am from the creek to the river, to the Dam, the tent, and fishing. I am from living.

I am from church, hymns, piano lessons on a Saturday afternoon, a quartet in the 90’s, and almost anywhere anytime. I’m from the old timers, the country songs, Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Buddy Holly, “Blueberry Hill”, and Sunday afternoons.

I am from the tall and the short, the big and the small, the poor and the rich, and the blessed beyond measure. I am from the camera, the picture on the wall, the blonde hair, skinny legs, and green eyes. I am from the brothers, the friends, neighbors, and family. I am from the backyard to the front, the hills and hollows, moss on the hill, and burned bacon on the outside fire. I am from family reunions, anniversaries, birthday parties, and Christmas joy.

I am from “Don’t talk back”, and “I am bigger than you”. I am from “Don’t hit your brother”, “the hollow log”, “It’s okay to cry”, and “Be home on time.”

I am from Alabama to Indiana, to Texas, Alabama, to Tennessee, and from Alabama always. I am from the Jewelers, the Banks, and the clinic. I am from advertising, secretaries, trust and loan departments. I am from the Interstate to the country road and back again. I am from fishing, bowling, soccer fields, football fields, sprained ankles, broken hip, fishing pond, and scars.

I am from generations from England, to America, from the East to the West, North to the South. I am from heritages, Indians, English, German, Irish, and what God intended.

I am from life within and without, the loving, compassionate and kind. I am from the children, the parents, the dreams, the failures and the accomplishments. I am from loving, living, and enjoying life. I am from the Family Bible, the picture albums, and the mirror on the wall. I am from the Redeemer, the Almighty God, the Good Shepherd, and King.

Where are you from?

Say It Again, Ann Coulter!

Ann Coulter opens her mouth; we listen, some with 'baited breath', others with a sense of awe. I know lots of people don’t like her, but she is right on with this post on high gas prices.

I would be more interested in what the Democrats had to say about high gas prices if these were not the same people who refused to let us drill for oil in Alaska, imposed massive restrictions on building new refineries, and who shut down the development of nuclear power in this country decades ago.
But it's too much having to watch Democrats wail about the awful calamity to poor working families of having to pay high gas prices.
Liberals pretend to be for the ‘people’; yet, they go against the very thing that would help the ‘people’ – drilling for oil on our own property, and building new refineries. They blame the high gas prices on the big oil companies, when, in reality, the government has put the high taxes on the gasoline. The government is the one getting the most money, not the oil companies. But, the way they talk, lots of the public thinks that the liberal Democrats are telling them the truth, because:

It's as if a switch goes off in people's brains telling them: The Democrats can't be saying they want to destroy the lives of people who drive cars because my father was a Democrat, and the Democrats can't be this stupid!
When people aren’t well informed, it’s easy to persuade them to believe an untruth. So, with all the talk, that is what they are hoping to do – turn the average ‘Joe’ against the White House and the big oil companies. After all, President Bush once owned an oil well! Duh! So, thanks to Ann Coulter for putting this all into perspective.

Snow Has Arrived At The White House

And, already, the Snow is being dirtied up. What else can you expect from those who are against any and all things coming from the White House, whether they are for or against any of them? They think they can get more mileage, if they lambast the President, or anyone he has chosen to nominate for a position on his staff. Thus, comes the thrashing of Snow, a conservative, but one who has, at times, not been so congenial to all that the President has stood for.

As Howard Kurtz says in his post, ‘Welcome to the White House, dude’. Until he takes the podium in front of all those journalists waiting to hit him with the multitude of questions, especially about his not being so ‘nice’ to the President in some of his comments, we will not know how Snow will fair. But, I am not worried. I actually think perhaps he can put them in their place, something McClellan never seemed to be able to do. Yesterday, when the President announced his decision, Snow spoke, and he seemed so at ease in front of the Press.

Snow has a way of smiling and being so convincing, while telling you how bad you look. (analogy – since I have never known of him addressing that particular subject). In other words, I think he will make it just fine among those of which he has been a part. He’s had experience on both sides of the fence and this experience should make him able to succeed where others might have failed – to re-adjust the scales and make them tip towards the President. If so, he will be the most welcomed SNOW of the century!

Unraveling At The Seams?

When I buy something new, I like to look at the seams. You can tell lots about a garment, when you inspect how it is made. And, often, when you wear a piece of clothing for the first time, you will know whether it is of good quality or not. Buttons may be loose, a stray string is ready to ‘be pulled’, and out comes a seam. Then, you have to ‘repair’, or it will start unraveling, only to have a bigger problem.

Life is like that. Sometimes, it seems to be unraveling at the seams. Things don’t go the way you planned. You are never able to meet your bills on time; your job doesn’t last or you get fired; your spouse asks for a divorce; you open your mouth and insert foot – a big embarrassment.

The Word says that ‘the thief cometh not but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; but I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.’ (John 10:10). And, rest assured, if we give satan any place in our life, he is going to do everything in his power to destroy us completely. But, the Lord tells us, if we lack wisdom, to ask God, in faith, and He will give it to you. We often ‘can’t see the tree for the branches’ – GOD is always there, but little things in our life cause us to put him aside, which makes us miss out on things, thus giving satan a stronghold in our lives. And, he certainly knows how to capitalize on that stronghold! He has you saying things that you regret, and before you know it, life is simply unraveling before your eyes.

How do you stop the unraveling? Get down to business with the Lord. He has to be the number one in your life. Go to Him for answers, not to others. Study the Word; His Word is Truth (John 17:17) Get the Word down within you, so you have it to resist the devil with. Within ourselves, we are not able to restrain him, but the Word can put him at flight! Start fixing those ‘loose ends’ today, and stop that seam from unraveling!

Christian Carnival 119 Is Up

In all my running this week, I forgot to recognize Christian Carnival. It is up over at Brain Cramps For God. There are so many good posts to choose from, it's hard to say which is best.

You will enjoy this week's carnival. He has built the catergories around the two most important commandments in the Bible, and has done an excellent job in doing so!

Can You Tell I'm A Football Fan?

And, having a grandson who plays even makes it much better. But, he's still in High School. Will have to wait another year or so to see where he lands.

Right now, I am happy to hear that one of my favorite quarterbacks will be playing next year. It was in doubt last season if he would be back. Yes, Brett Favre, of the Green Bay Packers, will be leading them again this next season. His fellow-Green Bay Packer and icon, Bart Starr, thinks that Favre has a few more good years, but it would be up to him and his family whether he plays beyond this next season. Barring any injuries, I hope he does play as long as possible. Bart Starr was also one of my favorites (does that make me old?). He happened to be at my high school, coaching for one semester. And, I know that really make me old! But, that also makes him older. :)

Back to Favre and his decision making:

Sherman applauded Favre for his deliberate decision making.

"I'm sure his intent was to validate to himself that by coming back he was doing the right thing for himself, his family, the Packers and the fans," Sherman said in comments distributed by the Texans. "I'm sure he wanted to make with total certainty a commitment to the team physically, mentally, and emotionally. How can you question that process?"

A Breath Of Fresh Air In The White House

Tony Snow has always been one of my favorite news commentators. He comes off as truthful, trustworthy, and a caring person. That is why it was so refreshing to hear that he had been tapped for White House Press Secretary, replacing Scott McClellan.

Tony Snow was the director of speech-writing for the first Bush administration. He has been a talk show host, journalist, anchor, and editorial positions with several newspapers. In other words, he has been on both sides of the ball. He knows what it is to be of the media, asking those grueling questions; only thing, now, he will be the recepient of those questions. But, most feel he will be able to handle the task.

William Kristol, who worked with Snow in the White House of George H.W. Bush and was a regular panelist on "Fox News Sunday" when Snow anchored the show, invoked the Fox News slogan in saying: "It will be good to have a fair and balanced press secretary.

"An outsider with a somewhat happy-go-lucky attitude could help externally, but also internally," said Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard, because staffers tend to get "so defensive after years of getting pummeled." He said Snow could also carry Bush's message on the airwaves, adding that "this White House has been amazingly negligent in putting spokesmen out day after day on radio and television."

The only hinderance that might have stood in the way would have been a negative results from his latest test from colon cancer surgery had had last year. But, he got a clean report, and doctors encouraged him to take the job. They said it wouldn't give him cancer, but he might get heart burn.

Michelle Malkin has a great blog on Tony Snow - Meet The White House Press Secretary

More Than A Conqueror

I was out in the Blogosphere this morning, reading various posts. And, I ran across Henry’s post at Henry’s Musings – “You Do Not Have To Sin”. And, I certainly agree; it’s a choice we each make each morning when we arise – to sin or not to sin, to follow after God, or give into satan.

So many believe that we are incapable of being sinless. But, what does that do to the Power of the Holy Spirit that is living in the Christian? Does it nullify and make void what Jesus did for us on the cross? Scripture says that he ‘died for our sins,’ (I Corinthians 15:3). I hear so many saying, “I am just a sinner, saved by Grace.” – Yes, we are saved by Grace, but the Bible tells us that ‘if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; all things are passed away, behold, all things are become new.’ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

I believe the Word of God is truth, and we have to place our faith in the Word. The devil will trap us into unbelief every time he gets a chance. But, we give him the chance, when we stray from what the Word actually says, and what society has taught us it means.

Genesis 1:27 tells us that God made us in his own image. And, on the sixth day, he saw everything he made, and said it was GOOD. Man fell in the Garden of Eden – trickery of the devil. And, he’s been out to get man ever since. But, when we come to God and repent, and the Holy Spirit is residing within us, then we have the Power to overcome all the obstacles that the devil sends our way. It is just that we let our weaknesses take over, rather than depending on the Holy Spirit to take over and deliver us ‘from evil’. We are to resist the devil and he will flee. But, more times than not, we fall into his trap, temptation takes over, and sin abounds.

I’ll leave you with one scripture that just popped into my head, while I was writing this.

1 Thessalonians 5:18, "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

When the devil tempts you, ‘give thanks’ to God that he has equipped you with the power to overcome!

When you feel things aren’t going the way ‘you planned’, and you feel you are going to fall, ‘give thanks’ to God that He is able to ‘deliver the godly out of temptations’.

When you feel you can’t make it alone; know that He is always present and we can come boldly to the throne of grace and receive mercy, and find grace in that time of need! He will never leave you nor forsake you; HE can keep you from sinning! You are a new creature in Christ!

Romans 8:37, "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."

Lord, Please Meet Me In The Laundry Room

Book Review
Author – Barbara Curtis

Lord, Please Meet Me In The Laundry Room is a book full of motherly advice. And, being a Mother of 12 children, Barbara has the ability to give that advice. Barbara not only has 12 children, but 4 of those are Down Syndrome children, one being her natural son, and the other 3 are adopted.

I thought this book would be one of humor, full of all the little anecdotes that you usually get in a book with this title, but quickly found out this was not the case. With only two children, I can hardly imagine all the things that went on around the Curtis home, with 12 children. As the years went by, I am sure she, as most Mothers, longed for a place to be alone at times. Barbara found the Laundry Room to be her getaway – the place where she could meet God any time of the day or night. And, she was usually there any time of the day or night! Washing clothes, folding clothes, and ironing for a household like hers will give her ample time to pray and listen to God in the Laundry room.

Barbara was a Mother long before she became a Christian. When she became a believer, she quickly signed up for a Bible study. She found that she needed a ‘prayer closet’, and she had hoped to find one within the bounds of her home. But, one day, as she was praying for one in her laundry room, she heard, “Aren’t you praying now?” That is how she found her quiet time with the Lord – through those 10-20 minute intervals folding or washing clothes.

This is not a quickly read book, although I might have read it in a day, had I stayed with it. But, it is an actual life story of how faith and Motherhood work together. Barbara takes you through trials and errors, every day living with her husband and children. In her early days of becoming a Christian, she said she had always heard that God didn’t give you more than you could handle. But, I am sure that was sort of hard to swallow, not being a woman who had grown up with the Bible, or well-versed in what God had to say about the issues.

One incident in the book really stood out in my mind. It was one with her then 7 year old Jasmine. Jasmine’s school was having a school fair. She was elated, and came home to announce to her Mother that she wanted her to make this elaborate cake. The first words out of Barbara’s mouth was, “Honey, I’m just not that kind of Mother”. I felt a twinge in my heart, when I read those words. I could see the disappoint in the eyes of Jasmine. I truly believe this is when Motherhood must have taken on a new meaning for Barbara. She thought about the un-involvement of her own Mom in her life, and now she was starting to repeat the cycle. The feminist movment had inplanted into her mind that womanly chores was to be looked down upon, and then there was her own Mom’s lack of concern. She quickly decided to get involved, even though she knew she might make a mess. She realized she could be come any kind of Mom she wanted to become. It just took time, effort, and a willingness to go that extra mile. And, she learned obedience to God through this incident. When He asks you to ‘go that extra mile’, be assured He will go there with you.

This is a book I highly recommend. My children are grown now, but I have grandchildren. I see my daughter going through all these little things a Mom goes through, having four children of her own. It’s a taxing experience, having to work every day, since she’s a single Mom, but I’ve never heard her regret having one of those children, nor regretting doing all she can to make each of them special. And, Barbara, with her 12, seems to have made it just fine through Motherhood. Her children seem to have learned lots of lessons, one being, ‘you can do anything’, if you put your heart and mind to it. One thing was their insistence that they adopt the last child with Downs Syndrome that Barbara was heard to have turned down. Through their encouragement, one more loving child was added to the family. And, she now thanks God for that sweet ‘little extra’.

You may also enjoy reading more from Barbara Curtis by going to her blog,
MommyLife.

This book was given to me by Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City, through Active Christian Media, as a reviewer, free of charge. I am, in no way, compensated for this.

Legalized Gay Marriage Brings Reprecussions

The state of Massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriages, and remains so today. The ones opposed are now feeling the effects of this decision, but have no sayso in what goes on in their public schools.

An elementary school teacher from a Lexington school read the book, King & King, to her second grade class. This is a book in which a prince is hunting for a bride, only to choose another prince. At the end of the story, they share a kiss. And, this has some parents up in arms about this. One parent said the children are being indoctrinated to make gay marriage a norm, even when it is not something they support.

The families against this being taught in the schools have lost out. The Superintendent of schools in Lexington says they are committed to teaching all students, and this is a way to 'teach them diversity'.

"We couldn't run a public school system if every parent who feels some topic is objectionable to them for moral or religious reasons decides their child should be removed," Lexington Superintendent of Schools Paul Ash told The Boston Globe. "Lexington is committed to teaching children about the world they live in, and in Massachusetts same-sex marriage is legal."

Kris Mineau, president of the conservative Massachusetts Family Institute, says, if you have children, this same-sex marriage immediately affects you. And, this should be a wake up call to all those who are indifferent. He believes Lexington school officials have an agenda and he feels this is to indoctrinate the students into homosexuality and same-sex marriages.

One conservative Massachusetts organization, the Parents Right Coalition, is fighting for a state bill that would allow parents to opt their children out of discussions over homosexuality.

Society Vs. God - In The Lives Of Women

In today’s society, women and girls are pushed to the limit. We are shown ads on the television and in books that depict these gorgeous figures, flawless faces, legs, and hair. It's a world of spandex, botox injections, and numerous lifts! Most of our bodies will not allow us to wear that type of clothing, and still look like a lady! It gives the impression, if you don’t measure up, then some how you are less than feminine.

When young girls are pressured to look their best constantly, never to be soiled by dirt or work, with never a dirty fingernail or a hair out of place, then they become depressed, and feel they don’t measure up. I am sure this has pushed many a young teenager into the worse eating habits and perhaps into bulimia or anorexia. It puts them at risk for worse health problems, or perhaps an early death like the untimely death of Karen Carpenter, who died of anorexia.

There are times in a woman’s life she may not look the most appealing in the world. She gardens, washes cars, cleans her home, takes care of her children, makes the bus route – you name it; she does it! And, it’s not always the most appealing task and she’s not always in a skirt and heels! In fact, you may find her in sweats – you would me!

There is a time and place for all things! When you work, you dress accordingly. When you go to church, or dine out, you dress more appropriately -–perhaps in casual or dress clothes. But, to make a woman or girl feel that she has to have on sexiest clothes, have an immaculate hairdo, and heels to do jobs that otherwise would be calling for work clothes is wrong. To teach a young girl that she is not at her best unless she’s physically attractive is wrong! I believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When a young girl is honest, clean cut, mannerly – then she should be appealing to anyone. Having a warm heart and big smile goes a long way!

Society should never impose unobtainable goals on people, especially women and girls. Motherhood is wonderful, but a Mother can never be immaculate all the time. Show me one that is, and something is wrong with the picture. Show me a woman who has an immaculate house every minute of every day, and I would think the woman has a perfectionist problem. Young girls also play sports; therefore, you are not going to find them smelling good every minute, nor will you find them in the most appealing clothes. And, they should feel free to look unkempt, at times. Freedom to be you should come before trying to please others. If you aren’t happy with the way you view yourself, you are going to make others miserable.

I’ve been in homes where I felt an intruder. The house was kept so clean, you could eat off the floors; yet, the woman would constantly mention how much she had to do, or say she really needed to clean house. WHERE? – I would think to myself.

We are imperfect people living in an imperfect world. Many try to appear perfect while underneath the exterior they are wrecks. Many have been pushed or push themselves to heights that are beyond what they normally would be going. Life becomes a chore rather than a joy. And, God doesn’t mean for us to be living that kind of life.

Remember the Martha and Mary story, (Matthew 10:38-42) when Christ came to sit with them? Mary wanted to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to Him. But, Martha was more intent in cooking lunch for Jesus, and she was upset that Mary wasn’t pulling her load. So, she questioned Jesus as to why He hadn’t told Mary to help her. To paraphrase the scripture – Jesus told Martha that she worried about many things that was not that important. He said that Mary understood the important things in life and she should not be upset that Mary was sitting with Him rather than helping Martha cook the meal for Jesus. In other words, if she really wanted to cook the meal, that was fine. But, don't hold it against Mary, since her concern was more in listening to Jesus.

How many times have we sought to please people, to do what they want, to dress a certain way, look a certain way, go places we might not really want to go, just to get ‘brownie points’? What we should be doing is following after Jesus, having our minds trained to listen to His direction rather than that of the world. He will never lead us astray, and will never require things of us that we could not do, through the power He has placed in this earthly vessel. He will lead us in the ‘paths of righteousness’ (Psalm 23:3), if we let him. His track record is unquestionable.

Carol Inspires Again!

In reading Carol's blog at She Lives, I found a quiz I could not pass up. And, it happens to know a little bit about me!

You Should Be A Poet

You craft words well, in creative and unexpected ways.
And you have a great talent for evoking beautiful imagery...
Or describing the most intense heartbreak ever.
You're already naturally a poet, even if you've never written a poem.

Put The Enemy On The Run!

The enemy is out there to get you! Scripture says, in John 10:10, that 'the thief has come to steal, to kill, and to destroy'. He is out there every minute of the day, trying to find ways to disrupt your life, and to try and make it impossible for you to keep your eyes on the Lord. He never lets up, day or night.

Our computers are so vulnerable. After all, they are 'man-made', man-invented; therefore, they are not perfect. For a long time, it was thought that a virus could not touch the MAC. But, that is coming to a close. Just today, I was reading about this new virus code that hackers
had released a sample of in early April that could infect both Linux and Windows PC's. The article warns users of both Linux and MAC OS X to get an anti-virus program, if you are not already using one.

It's the same in our lives. Viruses hit us unexpectedly. One minute, we may feel fine, but, the next minute, we may be in the bed so sick we can hardly hold up our heads. It can hit that fast. And, the only way we can really combat the onslaught of these attacks is to be prepared through 'prevention medicine'. A shot for the flu and pneumonia is there for the taking, but, many, like me, never think to get one! We live in this world which thinks 'it will never happen to me'. But, then it does - too late for the shots, and we land flat of our backs, wondering what hit us!

It is the same way in our spiritual lives. God has given us a handbook of prevention medicine. But, many times, like in our daily lives, we forget about the handbook. We go about our daily chores, trying to be the best we can, at work and at home, but leave our 'medicine' on the coffee table, or, worse, on the shelf, catching dust. The only time it gets touched is when we do our weekly housecleaning. We may occasionally take it to church with us.

If we, as Christians, were such astute followers of the Word as we are of our weekly ball games, how could the enemy ever reach us? We would be so involved in the Word - studying and getting it down in our hearts to be used against the enemy, he would be afraid of us. We would open our mouths and out would pop the Word! How can we be effective in outreach, if we don't possess the very tools we are trying to 'sell' to others? They must see the Word work in our lives in order to believe what we are saying.

The Beauty of Rainy Days

I love rain! When I was young, I remember going out in the yard, playing, just to feel the raindrops on my face! Didn’t matter that I was getting drowned by the rain – just that it felt good to get wet!

My children used to go play in a ditch that runs through our yard, under the roadway, and down into the pasture, every time it rained. They knew the water would flow there for hours, and they enjoyed it immensely. Now, my grandchildren enjoy the same thing, when they are around. I can visualize those small bodies, running up and down the ditch, stopping only to throw the water on the other one, all the while, giggling, and falling down, getting up and going at it again. Brings back some cherished memories!

Rain also gives me a peace beyond measure. I can take a good book, lean back in my chair, put my feet up, and read forever! But, then, that doesn’t happen, since I also get sleepy, when it rains. I don’t know about the rest of you, but rain makes for a good sleep time. When the weatherman mentions rain, I say, “let it rain at night.” That brings back memories of staying at my grandparents’ home. They had tin on their roof, and it was a wonderful sound, to lay back and listen to the rain hitting the tin roof. I don’t have that luxury here in my own home, but I can hear it raining outside my bedroom windows, and it sounds so soothing!

God sent the rain to water the earth. But, I also believe He knew the rain would be satisfying to His people. It has a calming effect like none other. It sort of ‘washes away’ the dirt that has accumulated over time! And, now, I’m waiting on the next rain; might even go out and run in it!

Life Is A Buffet So Save Room For Dessert

Author: Polly D. Boyette
Book Review

Polly Boyette chose a great title for this book, with all the humor in her families life. It lets one know that, along with the bad happenings in our life, we should take out time to see the humor of it all (maybe after we've cried a few tears), and not forget to laugh a little along the way.

The book is crammed full of incidents in the life of the author, her sister, and Mother. While reading, one feels like one is right there among all the funnies! And, while showing us her family is like the rest of us, with all the things that go wrong and do, she also mixes in a little scripture from the Word, to show how our life corresponds to the Bible.

Having a 10 year old grandson who thinks there is nothing at the restaurants but chicken, I got a big laugh from her sister's need for chicken almost every time they ate out, or bought and brought home.

This book is not only full of lots of wonderful stories told with a humorous view, but also gives one a chance to realize that God meant for us to have fun in our lives. We can live a Christian life, and have fun and laughter, as well.

This book was given to me through Active Christian Media, by the publishers iUniverse, Inc., for a review only, free of charge.

100th Anniversary of Azusa Street

The Azusa Street revival had it's humble beginnings in a converted stable. They were united around the belief that the Holy Spirit still worked miracles.

The Pentecostal and charismatic Christians roots are in those very revivals. And, there are about 600 million believers who are among the fastest growing segment of Christianity.

The 100th anniversary will be celebrated worldwide, with thousands expected to participate in an Azusa Street Centennial in Los Angeles from April 25-29.

What hasn't been known widely is the humble beginnings of the movement. It first began in 1906 in a small house on Azusa Street. A black pastor, named Wiliam Seymour preached for 3 weeks on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which empowers them to heal, prophesy, and speak in tongues. The crowd soon became so big, he had to move to his front porch and used it as his pulpit. It soon was moved to an old building that held livestock.

This was at the height of the Jim Crow era, but these meetings included blacks, whites, Hispanics and Asians from Los Angeles.

The crowd was very rowdy and soon got the names "Holy Rollers", "Holy Jumpers", "Tangled Tongues", and "Holy Ghosters".

News of this revival soon got around the world. It brought people from around the world to the meetings. The Azusa Street Mission published their own paper and it was distributed to 50,000, some overseas.

Synan points out that having a black man, Seymour, in charge "with white men under his authority" was considered miraculous.

"From that day on I would say Pentecostalism has had more crossing of ethnic boundaries than any movement in the world in Christianity."

Can You Say SCAM?

In order to get money to pay for their mounting bills, a Missouri couple came up with the idea they could have 'sextuplets'. Only thing missing was the woman's pregnancy.

Kris and Sarah Everson admitted they staged the pregnancy of multiple births in order to get money to pay bills. They were charged with stealing by deceit from workers, friends, and neighbors. They collected $3,500 from a local charity and from the place of business where Kris worked.

The Prosecutor said that the Midwest was very trusting, but I think the trust shown to this couple will be long in coming, if ever again.

The Examiner, a newspaper in Independence, printed the story after sitting on it for three weeks. They failed to get their own pictures of the babies who were supposed to have still been in the hospital. But, the story began to unravel after their report, since no area hospital had any multiple births as the Everson's had said. They finally had to confess it was all a hoax for money.

The couple is facing up to seven years in prison. Looks like their scam/hoax was a little flawed from the beginning. There are no babies, and, besides looking at years in prison still saddled with their debt, he is now out of a job.

Heavy Rain Triggers Mudslides in Colombia

There have been heavy rains in south-western Colombia, causing many mud slides. This has resulted in at least 11 deaths, and as many as 40 missing people.

Not only have rescuers been hampered by the heavy rains, and cut off by mud slides; they have been attacked by Colombia's factions.

As many as 1200 tourists had to be taken to safety. But, a journalist, who was there to cover the disaster, was swept away after the new rains on Thursday produced more mud slides. He is still missing, but his camera man has been found, but with serious injuries. Hundreds of people have been left homeless in this latest disaster.

More than 40 people have been killed and thousands left homeless by floods and mudslides in this year's wet season, which has also seen thousands of hectares of crops destroyed.

The rainy season began in March and probably will continue until June, the article reports.

Shuffle Faster, Please

82 year old Mayvis Coyle could not beat the red light on a busy five lane highway in Los Angeles. So, she was given a $114 ticket by a motorcycle cop for 'obstructing traffic'. She said she became to shuffle across with her cane when it turned green, but did not make it.

There have been many complaints that the lights turn too quickly even for college students. One person said it changed in 20 seconds from the time it turned green to red. The healthiest of people could not make that light!

Councilwoman Wendy Greuel said she has asked transportation officials to figure out how to accommodate elderly people.

"We should look at those areas with predominantly seniors and accommodate their needs in intersections" she said.

WorldNetDaily: Google hosts ‘boy love’ site

World Net Daily interviewed marriage and family therapist intern, Stacy L. Harp, after she had tried to get Google to drop a site which promotes “boy love” sexual relationships, between men and adolescents. She had been contacted on her personal website, Writing Right, after a reader saw that she was writing about these kind of relationships. The person alerted her to the offending free weblog on Google’s blogspot.com.

Seems after Stacy reported the site,
“Paiderastia’ The Boy Love Revival, to Google, the site removed some of the offending messages. But, this site seems to be one for pedophiles, since it is talking constantly, about ‘coming out’ to the public, or a friend, or family member, as a pedophile. They seem to think their ‘code of ethics’ makes it okay to engage in relations with a young boy. One person writes about the ‘war at home’, and dreaming of one day ‘coming out as a boy lover.’

The Google site has this at the top of their page:

Pederasty, as idealized by the ancient Greeks, was a relationship and bond between an adolescent boy and an adult man outside of HIS immediate family. This is modernized in today's culture as gender neutral by a relationship and bond between an adolescent child and an adult outside of their immediate family. In a wider sense this refers to erotic/mentor/spiritual love between adolescents and adults. Building Bridges!

Notice, it says, ‘in a wider sense this refers to erotic/mentor/spiritual love between adolescents and adults. And, they call it ‘Building Bridges’.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines erotic as

1. Of or concerning sexual love and desire; amatory.
2. Tending to arouse sexual desire.
3. Dominated by sexual love or desire.

U.S. Officials hunting pedophiles see web sites as these as low profile, since they aren’t explicit in details. But, Stacy Harp, who has recovered from child sexual abuse and spent the last 4 years as a therapist, thinks something should be done about them. We need more ‘Stacys’ out there, who are looking out for the welfare of all children!

"It plays into the normalization of it," she said. "The more you have it out there the more it's available for children to see. Children are easily influenced."
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Stacy has picked a great time to bring this to our attention, and try to raise the awareness of what child abuse does to a youngster unable to fend for oneself.

Growing Old Gracefully

Psalms 90:17, "And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."

We’ve all heard the phrase, “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.” Each day we live, we grow a little older, wrinkles begin to show up more prominently, and grey hair becomes a truth. No matter how much we try with makeup, clothes, face-lifts or any of the many other ways to ‘look beautiful’, age will not escape us. Some just get around it better than others do!

The world tries to dictate how we should look. We are shown these beautiful, thin models in the magazines, or on television, modeling clothes that were only made to flatter the best of bodies. There are more of us with unstable flab that would look hideous in most of those fashions! Not too many people have a perfect size, and something looks a little different than it was supposed to on a different person. But, we still try and fit in some of those things, not because we want to, but because most fashions are geared at that perfect body. Lets admit it: most of us are way passed the 'wear anything' stage, with the bulging midriffs, the sagging arms, wrinkled hands, and legs laced with spider web veins!

While the world pines away to like those skinny models, those of us with the sense to know we could never look like those girls, will be doing the best with what we have. God gave each of a body with parts which wear out, a mind of which He wants to be the center, and a conscious to let us know when we are either ‘over the line’, or headed straight for the door. Life is not all about the beauty ‘without’, but the beauty ‘within’. When a person lives according to the dictates of the Word, and not the dictates of the world, their light will shine out to others – showing the greatest beauty of all! And, growing old will just be the ultimate culmination of life!

Jesus May Have Walked On Ice?

That is what a team of scientists at Florida State University says. And, two of it's members also went into Bible research back in 1992, when they used mathematics to try and explain Moses' parting of the sea.

The researchers said it is not their job to determine whether the biblical story took place. That is a question for religious scholars, archeologists, anthropologists and believers, they write.

Well, tell me why they even took time to try and disprove it?

Be Prepared

Today, it has been a beautiful day. The sun has been shining all day, and the spring has brought in all kinds of birds. They are chirping, as though there is nothing but good weather in the air. But, if we had not heard the weather, we would not know what was in store for us later tonight. Storms have already hit other areas, devastating homes and lives.

But, these days, we have weather forecasters who keep us abreast of the weather that is about to happen in our respective areas. So, today, we know to prepare for a possible tornado, perhaps the worst of the spring season. We know the precautions to take, to get to shelter early, and not to feel like we will be okay, because the sky 'doesn't look bad.' Too many have lost their lives due to not listening to the forecasters and taking the needed precautions early enough.

Being prepared also means making preparations to meet the soon coming King. So many people take life so lightly. Some do not believe in a God who made us in His image, whose presence is with us constantly, who 'sees all things', 'knows all things' - an ever presence in our lives. Some, who do believe, nevertheless, take their own sweet time in making up their minds to serve Him. They want to do what they want to do, and go their merry way, not heeding the calling of the Holy Spirit. They seem to think they have all the time in the world to come to Him. Some never make it. Some believe they will do whatever they want, and then, on their deathbed, they will be able to repent and be saved. But, my question to them is this, "What happens if you aren't able to repent at the last moment? What happens if you are in a tragic accident and leave this world in the 'flash of an eye'?

The Lord says that 'whosoever believeth on me hath everlasting life.' John 6:47. But, we must make the first step to come to Him, to
repent, and believe that He was sent by God to earth, born of a virgin, to die for us, that He was crucified, and rose again, and now sits at the right hand of the Father. God sent His only Son, Jesus, to be the supreme sacrifice for our sins that we might live eternally with him. But, we must be prepared.

Cynthia McKinney: The Rep Who Cries Racism

The run in with the Capitol Police is not the first time McKinney has tried to make a racial issue out of something she's been caught in. There are articles all over the Internet about her and the things she's said or done.

Neal Boortz says it was "Cynthia McKinney Just Being Cynthia McKinney.

McKinney once said that the Bush White House had had prior knowledge of the 9-11 attacks.

Doug Gross, at Forbes.com, says that her softened image of 2004 took a blow during this last frenzy of hers, in which she hit a Capitol Police, when he tried to stop her because she wasn't wearing a badge, and he did not recognize her. She thinks everyone should know her; and perhaps they should recognize her from the mouth which spouts off all the time: racism!

"She's brought back the old Cynthia," said Merle Black, a political scientist at Emory University. "There won't be any more news stories about `the new Cynthia McKinney.'"

She once said that former Vice President Al Gore had a low "Negro tolerance level" and that officials in the Bush administration had advance knowledge of the Sept. 11 attacks but kept quiet to allow friends to profit from the bloodshed.

She denounced New York Mayor Rudolph Guiliani for refusing a $10 million donation from a Saudi prince for the families of Sept. 11 victims. She has been criticized for her outspoken support of the Palestinian cause in Israel. In 1996, her father, longtime state lawmaker Billy McKinney, called her Republican opponent a "racist Jew."

In Debbie Schlussel's piece, "Jihad Cynthia Strikes Again", at FrontPage Magazine, she says that Cynthia said the White House was full of latent racists. She was pushing for slavery reparations. Guess who the President was back then? You guessed it - Clinton!

The surprise is that she continues to be a respected member of the Democratic Party and House Democratic Caucus. In my column, I wrote that Jihad Cindy is the modern-day Hanoi Jane. But I was wrong.

Jane Fonda was only in film. Jihad Cindy is far worse: She's a Member of Congress.

Help! Mom! Hollywood's In My Hamper!

Book Review
Author: Katherine DeBrecht

This book is among the most hilarious of books I’ve read lately! Two young sisters set out to baby sit neighborhood children in order to buy themselves the new bike everyone is raving about. But, they get caught up in Hollywood’s “It’s the Rage”, with all the liberals jumping out of a hamper in their closet.

The young girls go through many changes, which is not ‘them’, and eventually never get anymore calls for babysitting. They realize they are better off being themselves, which is what their Mom had taught them. They get rid of the Hollywood rage items, become the young girls they were before, and get back to living the young life with others youngsters.

The book is a great teacher for children having a tough time being themselves, and wanting to be ‘like others’.

This book was given to me for review, for free, through Active Christian Media, by the publisher, World Ahead Publishing Company, Los Angeles, CA.

CREDO by Ray Prichard - Book Review

Credo, the Latin word for creed, means ‘I believe’. And, at the top of this book, there is this sentence: “Believing in something to die for”. Within Credo, the author has dissected the entire Apostle’s Creed, examined and explained every minute detail of the Creed. He has taken each part and given scripture to explain why each one is important to us, as Christians.

John 8:32 says, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” There is much more to the Christian life than the creed, but, we should know and believe those components within the creed. The world has changed throughout time, but the Word of has never changed. What was important thousands of years ago is still important today.

This is a great book for those who do believe in God, and belong to Him, and also for the unbelievers. Perhaps, upon reading, one would find God through these pages of truth. There is no better time than today to realize that there truly is a ‘living God’, one who is ever present, and knows us even before conception.

The very first chapter is entitled “You are what you believe”. And, if one’s beliefs are set on anything outside God’s truth, this book could be the one to strengthen the cause to come to Christ. For in Him, there is life everlasting.

This book was given to me for reviewing, free of charge, by Active Christian Media, published by Crossway.

Are Facts Obsolete?

Thomas Sowell is my kind of journalist, in that he tells it like it is!

What is more frightening than any particular policy or ideology is the widespread habit of disregarding facts. Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey put it this way: "Demagoguery beats data."

Sowell talks about how the media tells us things they want us to hear, but not the things we should be hearing. In other words, the news is always BIAS, and filtered. He talks about how we are given facts on the WHYS we should peruse certain areas, like gun control, or medical care in other countries on which to base our own laws, but seldom will you ever hear the reasons these should not be perused! Even our educators seem to filter out information that would balance out what they are teaching to our students. And, those very facts could be found in any library from an almanac or encyclopedia.

Crimes against homosexuals, blacks, or the homeless are big news to be dramatized, repeated, and denounced. Crimes committed by homosexuals, blacks, or the homeless are not — and are often passed over in silence by much of the media. The net result is that the public gets filtered facts, which can create an impression the direct opposite of the truth.

The result is the fact that yes, facts are becoming obsolete, but only in the minds of those reporting, teaching, or otherwise un-interested! I, for one, want to know the truth, as countless others around the country would, also. But, truth, as a whole, doesn't seem to be on the minds of some these days.

'Tasting Technology' In A Personal Way

Technology has given us many things to enhance our lives. We have the washer/dryer, the air conditioner, cars, cell phones, and etc. But, the one that probably everyone loves more than that is the computer. It has brought us the Internet, a way to converse all over the world.

I became acquainted with the Internet in 1991, when we got our first computer. That was before it became as it is today. Back then, you could get on an ISP, talk on their online forums – download them to your computer, answer offline. Today, forums are through email, even though you can read comments online. They are run through Google or Yahoo groups, the most widely known.

The Internet brought me my first truly best friend through a Web site. She and I ‘met’ in 1996. And, we’ve been friends ever since. She lives 12 hours from me, but, through the years, we’ve met 3 or 4 times, going out to eat, when I would be on a bus tour. But, we constantly email or call each other long distance. We know each others troubles, our aches and pains, and often call on each other to pray for something in our lives, or someone we know. We laugh and cry together – along with a few other ladies to whom we both are well acquainted. We all 5 are prayer warriors for each other.

The Internet has made it easier to ‘take the gospel to all the world’. It literally can go around the world in a few minutes, simply by placing it in an email and hitting the SEND button! We find a common bond among the Christians that email all over the world. I’ve been privileged to get to know people in many countries: Canada, Australia, Africa, Thailand, New Zealand, Great Britain – to name a few. And, this would never have happened, had there not been Internet Email available.

I believe the Internet is ‘the sign of the times’ technology. Through it, our lives can be made richer by meeting people we would never have gotten acquainted with. Sometimes that person may be across town, in another state, or even in another country. But, life will never be the same, once you’ve ‘tasted technology’ in such a personal way!

Mel White's Equality Ride Campaign

Most of us know Mel White as the person behind the Equality Ride campaign. The driving force behind this campaign is his organization called SoulForce.

The Soulforce Web site has this statement at the top of their site:

Freedom for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from religious and political oppression through the practice of relentless nonviolent resistance.

Anita Fish, in the Edmond Sun, says that SoulForce "is taking the homosexual issue to the next level; hoping Christians and non-Christians alike will not notice a tweaking of the Bible to fit its agenda." She says that he is confusing scripture on homosexuality.

It appears a fierce need for approval spurred a literary resource available through Soul-force’s Web site. In defense of the homosexual lifestyle, Mel White, co-founder of the organization, has authored a 17-page document accusing several denominations and religious organizations of committing “spiritual violence,” and discriminating by wrongly using Scriptural passages. White somewhat holds himself out to be the ultimate authority on the Bible, then proceeds to dismember Scripture (i.e. Lev. 20:13, 1Tim 1:10, 1Cor. 6:9, Rom. 1:26-27) implying the Bible was not written to apply for all times — at least where homosexuality is concerned.

J. Lee Grady, editor for Charisma, says that White and his gay partner, Gary Nixon, are "waging a propaganda war from their California headquarters." They are taking their Equality Ride over the nation, to campuses where they are pushing for Christian college students to embrace homosexuality as a normal life style. And, they are being met with resistance! And, apparently, this rocks their boat!

Soulforce’s goal is clearly stated on its Web site: “Never before have young activists banded together to challenge homophobia at the institutions that are largely responsible for GLBT discrimination.” (GLBT, by the way, stands for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender

At Lee University, they had scheduled a concert with the duo of Jason and DeMarco. Jason Warner, part of the duo with his partner, DeMarco DeCiccio, is a graduate of Lee University. And, he goes around, talking freely of his Pentecostal upbringing, as though that it is okay to be 'gay and pentecostal'.

A 'Pentecostal upbringing' does not make a person a Christian, no matter what you claim to be - heterosexual, homosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, then you are lost!

Scripture tells us that God made man and woman to produce and multiply the earth. There is no other union that can do this. Scripture tells us that it is an abomination to God for man to lie with man,as with a woman. (Leviticus 18:22). Apparently, this scripture has been ripped from their Bible.

He finally decided to divorce his wife and enter into a gay relationship, a process he described as “taking the first steps toward integrity” in his 1994 biography Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay and Christian in America.

White's honesty, or his 'integrity', as he put it does not make homosexuality right. It doesn't give him or his followers the right to try and impress the Youth of this nation with their open, rightfully wrong, life style, and try and pass it off as "God loves me like I am." God loves the person behind the homosexuality, but not the act of homosexuality. He says we will become a 'new creature' - 'old things are passed away; all things have become new.' (II Corinthians 5:17) I would also say to White, "You are living a sinful life. You have put away your wife for a man, and, in the eyes of God, this is wrong." I believe going against the Word of God is spiritual adultery. White has embraced what the world is saying is okay, denying that his actions are offensive to the One who holds his fate in His hands.

Domino's Founder To Create A Paradise On Earth

Domino's Pizza founder, Tom Monaghan, is trying to create his version of paradise on earth near Naples, Florida. He is building Ava Maria University, and it will share the town with the same name as the Pizza founder.

The new community will have strict Christian beliefs. It will be a town without adult bookstores, or topless bars. It will have strict family values. Monaghan is a devout Catholic. In keeping with the Catholic doctrine, he is asking doctors that set up shop there to offer no contraception. Also, pharmacies and convenience stores will be asked not to stock condoms or any type of pornography.

The town has some support from some prominet leaders in the state of Florida, even the President's brother is happy with the idea -- Governor Jeb Bush is thrilled with the idea.

"I think it will be a model for sustainable living, not just for Florida, but for the country."

Gabrielle Gilmore lives in nearby Naples and doesn't like the thought of the new city.

"I fear they will try to impose their religious and moral views on the rest of the community."

The ACLU has threatened to sue if they try and enforce any of their moral beliefs.

Bill Cosby Speaks To Crime Problem in New Orleans

Bill Cosby has always been outspoken in the fight against crime within the black population. Saturday, he spoke to a crowd of around 2,000 people, encouraging them to cleanse the area of the culture crime, as it rebuilds after Katrina.

"It's painful, but we can't cleanse ourselves unless we look at the wound," Cosby told the rally of about 2,000 people in front of the city's convention center.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you had the highest murder rate, unto each other. You were dealing drugs to each other. You were impregnating our 13-, 12-, 11-year-old children," he said.

"What kind of a village is that?"

Cosby has been outspoken before and denounced by some because he encourages his race to come out from under their problems, and make their priorities more on education and morality. I applaud him for the wisdom he has shown.

There Are Rules To Follow

Rules even apply to Congress women, Rep. Cynthia McKinney. But, I suppose she didn't realize, "wear your badge" didn't mean much. After all, she is in Congress; everyone should know her. But, that is not the point. If you slack on one thing, what else will you slack on. Had the officer, whom she hit, had let her get by, then the next one would expect the same treatment.

We expect children to obey the rules. The same applies to all other rules. But, her lawyer used the statement "just a victim of being in Congress while black." I suppose any excuse is better than no excuse at all.

Several Capitol Police officials have said the officer involved asked McKinney three times to stop. When she did not, he placed a hand on her and she hit him, they said.

Capitol Hill police have a job to do, and that job is to protect all 535 members and all the workers on Capitol Hill. If many don't comply, then this makes their job harder.

The safety of its members became a sensitive issue after a gunman in 1998 killed two officers outside the office of then-Republican Whip Tom DeLay of Texas.
