2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Third Year Blogosphere Anniversary

Three years ago today I started this blog. I began it because 'everyone else had one' - well, not really. But, I had read lots of Blogs that raised my curiosity, and my son had a couple blogs. So, I decided to go for it, and I am so happy I did.

I enjoy blogging on religion/Christianity, politics, family, and a host of other topics. I have also enjoyed reviewing books for authors. I have made friends in the blogosphere that I might never have had were I to have foregone the opportunity to set up my blog.

When trying to decide who to go with, Blogger was my choice because it was so easy to work with. And I haven't regretted coming here. In fact, most of the people I come across are Blogger users.

Thanks to all those who have taken the time to stop by and read or comment. I do check to see who has been around and visit those blogs, too. And, I hope to be here a long time, so come back anytime!

In the last days

Anybody that follows the teaching of the Bible understands that these are perilous times. So many of the scriptures below are evident of things happening in the world all around us at this moment. Yet, there are so many out there that pass the Bible off as just another book to read or untrue. But, one day, the truth will be known. And, nobody will have to wonder any longer if the Bible is indeed the handbook all should have been following during their life time.

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 Timothy 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2 Timothy 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2 Timothy 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2 Timothy 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2 Timothy 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

I just read an article that says that some people in the religious community are now saying that their faith isn't the only way to eternal life. Being saved is a life-changing experience. I cannot figure out how a person who has once given his life to Christ can say there is any other way to gain eternal life but through the free gift of salvation through grace by faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible plainly states that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and no man goes to the father except through Him. (John 14:6)

Perhaps the truth is found in this verse:

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

People are starting to fall away from what they once perceived to be the truth. The enemy has come to snatch away all he can through deceit. If a person doesn't stay closely connected to the Lord, then the enemy is right there waiting with his 'truth' and so many people are buying into it. We are becoming a nation of Laodiceans that once knew the truth and have now strayed. As the Word says:

Revelation 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Revelation 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Revelation 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

He is asking us to repent of our sins and turn back to Him. Otherwise, we will be standing at the Judgement seat of Christ. And on that day, he will say, "I tell you, I knew you not whence you are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity." (Luke 13:27)

Attacks on religious symbols

The problem will never end until every last religious symbol is removed from properties that aren't privately owned. And, who is to say that those will not be attacked some day.

I first read an article in World Net Daily about this couple in Florida who ran an apartment complex and did the maintenance there. When a supervisor came to inspect the apartment complex, she found a stained glass depiction of flowers with a scripture "Consider the lilies" from Matt. 6:28. She told the woman that it would have to go. The woman told her that she needed to go get her husband first. While she was gone, the supervisor took it down and went into their apartment without permission and left the picture there. When the woman came back, the supervisor fired them on the spot and evicted them from their apartment for being "too religious". Indeed, too religious!

The Dixon's story moved to court today, as Liberty Counsel filed a suit in the Jacksonville federal court on the couple's behalf, claiming the Dixons were discriminated against on the basis of their religious beliefs.

Now there is an atheist that moved into the town of Frankenmuth, Michigan four years ago that just lately realized there were crosses on a bridge. He protested and they took them off. He thought that was so easy, then he proceeded to try and get the cross removed from the town seal. Well, that has proved not to be so successful as of yet. He had been met with lots of town outcry.
Supporters of the Frankenmuth crosses said the history of the town is synonymous with the history of the local Lutheran church, which were both founded by the same settlers.

Besides the Luther rose, which contains a cross, the city seal contains symbols for the U.S. and Bavaria and a wheat sheaf to show the community's agrarian roots.

"I don't think the cross compels anyone to be a Christian any more than the sheath of wheat compels someone to be a farmer," said Joe Kraft, 81, a retired computer analyst who has lived in Frankenmuth his entire life.

The city park, at the southern entrance to town, contains a 70-foot cross and a restored log house modeled after one of the original homes.

This is a little German town that was built by the Lutherans. And in comes some people who aren't happy with the way the town is operating. So they proceed to try and get it changed. I've often wondered why these kinds of people can't just let the towns go on operating like they have and move to a place more suited to their wants and needs. Why stir up a hornets nest when there are no hornets?

And I have yet to figure out how one person can be so successful in a town where the majority of the population have the same set of standards/beliefs. It is astounding how our government will bow down to one person.

Watch out for porn

Those of us with Christian web sites try our best to keep them clean for adults and children alike. We link to sites that we would not mind our families surfing in. But as good as we are to check out the sites, that isn't always good enough.

Case in point: I got a note from a parent tonight who was surfing for a good teen site for her daughter. She came upon my page on my web site. She liked what she saw, but in checking out the links to magazines, she found nudity and adult content where there should have been a clean teen magazine. She was quick to alert me and I promptly removed the offending link.

When a Christian buys a domain and then fails to keep it up, the domain is then for sale again. The porn people are right there, waiting to snatch all those sites up. The host for my domain is a Christian. Every time someone fails to retain their domains, he buys them up just to keep as much porn off the Internet as possible. And, I certainly appreciate his effort to do so.

If you have a Christian web site, by all means keep check on the links quite often. What was okay today may not be okay tomorrow. My site is proof of that!! But, for the moment, all is well there.

Are you on the right path?

I came across this article about Obama this morning. I had recently read Cal Thomas' article, Obama is no Joshua, about him. But this morning, the quote about there being 'many paths to the same place' caught my attention.

clipped from www.onenewsnow.com
I'm rooted in the Christian tradition," Obama told Falsani. "I believe there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people." The latter part of that statement, says Thomas, would likely be viewed by most Christians as universalism.

"... [T]here is a clear requirement for one to qualify as a Christian and Obama doesn't meet that requirement," stated Thomas. "One cannot deny central tenets of the Christian faith, including the deity and uniqueness of Christ as the sole mediator between God and Man and be a Christian. Such people do have a label applied to them in scripture. They are called 'false prophets.'"

The Bible teaches us that the enemy will come as an angel of light, trying to get us off the path to God.

2 Corinthians 11:14, "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."
Deuteronomy 11:16, "Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;"

In the world today, it is easy to get off the true path to the Lord. There are so many that call themselves Christians, yet they exhibit no fruit. They do whatever they please for self, not adhering to the commandments of God. They think of themselves as okay. Yet, scripture tells us that there will be those that have done things in His name, yet did not live the Christian life and will not inherit eternal life.
Matthew 7:21-23, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Each of us have to examine ourselves to see if we are on the right path to eternal life. Or, have we let others lead us astray without even realizing what was happening?

Salomonella outbreak spreads to 16 states

UPDATE: More than 383 people in 30 states have now been infected by the salmonella virus.

Meanwhile, investigators are focusing on Mexico and central and southern Florida, which were the biggest suppliers of tomatoes at the time of the outbreak. "There is certainly a high likelihood that they came from Mexico or Florida," Acheson said.
There has been a steady increase in the number of cases of salmonella that was linked to uncooked tomatoes according to the New Mexico Department of Health communications director has said.

The source of the tomatoes responsible has not been determined yet. But 50 more cases have been found. It has been determined, though, that none of the tomatoes were grown in Texas or New Mexico. The other states where cases have been reported are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

At least 23 people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported, she said. Patients ranged in age from 1 to 82.

The rarity of the Saintpaul strain and the number of illnesses "suggest that implicated tomatoes are distributed throughout the country," she said.

Election 2008: All about race

Make no mistake about it: the 2008 election will be about race. All about race. The press will make sure of that, and the Left will make sure of that. All criticisms of Obama and Company will be regarded as thinly veiled racial attacks. Never mind the Senator's unfailingly liberal voting record. Never mind his positions on Iraq, taxes, international relations, health care or a thousand other issues. A vote against Obama will be a vote against racial progress.

blog it
This has been a remarkable year for campaigns. There have been two firsts in the race - a woman who made it almost to the top, and a black man who has become the nominee for the Democratic party. Never before in history has this happened. But, the process in which it happened was warped. Anything said about Hillary was said to be because of the issues or what she said - nothing to do with her being a woman, which I find a little ridiculous since it was mostly her own party that was doing the talking. On the other hand, if anything derogatory was said about Obama, it became racist. The media left him alone on all the issues and questions for which the public wanted answers. I find it strange that our nation could be looking at the election of a President that is afraid to be asked questions and thinks that his wife is not supposed to be held accountable for the things she says. The day she stepped out to campaign for her husband, she became accountable and she will be watched until the election in November. Her comments have struck a high note in the public's eye and the note is a little off key!

Living a life of freedom

To be truly free, we need to change the way we think, believe, and speak.

  • We should not be thinking the way the world thinks.
  • We should not believe the way the world believes, but put our trust in God.
Hebrews 2:13, "And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me."
  • We should not speak the way the world speaks. We should be speaking the Word, not doubt and unbelief.
Making a change in the way we think, believe and speak can change our lives. We are children of God and we should speak, think, and believe like we are.

1 John 4:17, “ because as he is, so are we in this world."

His Word is there to deliver us from a life of bondage.

Hebrews 2:14-15, "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."

Galatians 5:1, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."

John 8:36, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

He is my refuge

Psalms 61

1 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
6 Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations.
7 He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

Character Traits

Laura Ingraham is running a poll on the one character trait most needed in a presidential candidate. She has listed

  1. Honor
  2. Integrity
  3. Courage
  4. Honesty
It didn’t take me long to pick out the trait I feel is most needed in a Presidential candidate. I was brought up to be honest. We raised our children to be honest. When you are honest and lies aren’t in your vocabulary, you never have to back up one lie with another to try and stay ahead. You never have to worry to whom you told your last lie because you are a very honest person. We have lived that throughout our lives and it has served us well.

I believe, when you are honest in all things, then the other three, integrity, courage, and honor, will follow. People will take note that your character is impeccable. They won’t have to second-guess your decisions. Oh, there will be times when the devil perches on your shoulder and whispers in your ear that you don’t need to be ‘that honest’ – don’t listen. Sometimes honesty does hurt. You may have to tell someone something that will not be pleasant, but do it in love. Don’t rush to judgement with any circumstance.

And, when all is said and done – you have lived your life in honesty, stuck to strict moral and ethical codes, and had the courage to be honest with everyone. That is when you gain the honor of being a person who never lets life get in the way of being a moral, decent, uncorrupted human being! You may not be rich in worldly things, but you are rich in what counts!

Posting as Anonymous

Today, I read a blog entry where a person had posted anonymously to a mother's plea (with the permission of her daughter) to advise girls/women to get tested for the HPV virus which causes cervical cancer. Whatever the anonymous poster's intentions where, she committed a cardinal sin: she made a suggestion that the husband was having an affair, which is far from the truth.

When a comment is made anonymously, there is no way to get in touch with the person. It is unfair to the one to whom the comment is made to not be able to 'face' that person with the truth, personally. I've had people to come here to post anonymously. That is why my comments are now all moderated.

Too often, someone will make a comment without giving the feelings of the other person a thought. And, it is easy in this Internet world to appear anonymous. If a name was required for everything that was said and a way to get in touch with that person (nothing to hide behind), I can assure you less mean comments would be made. People would watch what they say. Too often we hit the send key without realizing that our comment might hurt someone else. And, when a family is hit with such a disease as the HPV virus, it is devastating enough without accusations being made as to infidelity.

Turning back the clock

When one goes looking for a job, he/she wants to put forth their best “face”, wear the right clothes, say the correct things, and give the right impression. And, honesty goes a long way with a perspective employer. When one fills out his/her resume, they list all the jobs they have held before, the experience they have had with that type of work, and perhaps people who can give them a good recommendation.

Forward to Barack Obama who has only been a Senator for a few years and otherwise unknown to the general public. He is running for the highest office in the land and has a very short list of jobs, none of which give him the experience with running a country. He has never held the job of a governor of a state that would qualify him for the office of President. Yet, somehow he has managed to pull himself up to the nomination for President under the leadership of some prominent Democrats.

Thomas Sowell has written a very good post today in Townhall.com about Obama. He talks about the importance of a man’s character and his values when running for the highest office in the land today. He says the man’s track record of what he has done speaks volumes, regardless of how elegantly he talks.

For any politician, what matters is not his election year rhetoric, or an election year resignation from a church, but the track record of that politician in the years before the election.

Yet so many people are so fascinated by Barack Obama's rhetorical skills that they don't care about his voting record in the U.S. Senate, in the Illinois state senate, the causes that he has chosen to promote over the years, or the candidate's personal character and values, as revealed by his actions and associations.

He speaks eloquently and carries himself like a proud man. But, that isn’t what matters. What really concerns the people, or should, is the way he has conducted his life before running for president. There you find just how things will be after he assumes the office, if he is elected. The track record of Obama is not what the media paints him to be. More and more is coming out about the people he has surrounded himself with over the years. Not only did he align himself with Rev. Wright for 20 years and only distancing himself from him because of his running for office, but then there comes Father Pfleger.

Father Pfleger has turned out to be as bad as Rev. Wright is, if not worse. Yet, Obama has just now decided to distance himself after the clown act that Father Pfleger did about Hillary Clinton in Obama’s old church. Never mind what he has done for Father Pfleger over the years.

In addition to giving $20,000 of his own money to Jeremiah Wright, as a state senator Obama directed $225,000 of the Illinois taxpayers' money for programs run by Father Pfleger. In the U.S. Senate, Obama earmarked $100,000 in federal tax money for Father Pfleger's work. Giving someone more than 300 grand is not just some tenuous, coincidental association.

For some reason, the media has skipped over all the things that have gone on over the years with Obama. But, as I told my children, “never do anything you don’t want someone else to find out”. And, it seems all these things are turning up in Obama’s campaign year. Perhaps, to him, there was nothing wrong with the things he has done; yet, it looks bad on the resume for a future president. What he will do as president holds the future of 300 million Americans in his hands and all those unborn children of generations to come. So, it is very important that we know a candidate and what he has done to make a good choice when we vote in the upcoming election.

Some make light of the ‘guilt by association’. But when you align yourself with questionable people such as Rev. Wright, Father Pfleger, and Bill Ayers, it is hard to get passed the fact that this is the way you have lived your life. It makes people wonder with whom you will align yourself during the years at the White House.

He has no concept of just how serious the terrorist problem is. He wants to sit down and have a talk with the Iranians. He thinks they are just a small country and present no threat to America. Well, it only took a small group to fly the planes into the World Trade Center. Look at what that did to America. These people are suicidal fanatics and will do anything to destroy America. You can’t appease those kinds of people with a talk.

I’ll leave you with what Sowell says in his last two paragraphs to think about:

Are we going to leave our children hostages to hate-filled sadists with nuclear weapons? Are we to rely on Barack Obama's rhetoric to protect them?

Senator Obama's foreign policy seems to be somewhere between Rodney King's "Can't we just get along?" and Alfred E. Neuman's "What, me worry?"

Remember, when you vote, there is no ‘turning back the clock’. The person who wins in November will be our president for the next four years. We will get what we vote for, nothing more, and nothing less.

The jerseys gone into space

What does Eli Manning and Craig Biggio have in common besides football? Their jerseys are headed for space in Space Shuttle Discovery's liftoff on Saturday. The jersey worn by Manning in the super bowl victory over New England and Biggio's jersey he wore in his last game with the Houston Astros are making history. Also taken along with those two jerseys was a Tour de France yellow jersey worn by Lance Armstrong.

The astronauts will take a picture of Manning's jersey and then store it until their return. They will give it back to Eli at a Giant's practice this summer.
