Change In Supreme Court's MakeUp

Today marked Judge John Roberts, Jr's first day as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. And, today, President Bush nominated Harriet Miers to replace Sandra Day O'Connor in the Supreme Court. The word out now is that, since there hasn't been a change in the court's make up in 11 years, this will certainly put the court's ideological future in the balance.

The departure of two justices with 57 years of combined experience will "make a lot of difference to the court in ways that none of us can see now, and probably won't be able to see for years," says Ted Olson, former US solicitor-general.
