Smurfs On a Different Turf

Thanks to The Truth Laid Bear for having this link at the site today. Otherwise, I'd never have read this. My children grew up with the Smurfs. My daughter collected all the Smurfs and Smurfetts. It was a 'blue world' around here years ago.

But, now the Smurfs have taken on a different task. A film has been made by UNICEF to raise money for the rehabilitation of former child soldiers in Burundi. The Smurfs film is the first adult-only episode. It will feature the Smurf village being annihilated by warplanes.

The final frame bears the message: "Don't let war affect the lives of children."

The Smurfs are first shown having a good time, as always. But, then, the bombs fall, and the Smurfs are running for their lives, baby Smurfs running for their lives in vain. But, a baby Smurf does make it, crying and sitting among the dead Smurfs. Sounds like a tear-jerker, even though we know they aren't real - simply because the Smurfs were a 'happy group', appealing to the children and adults alike - or so, to me, anyway. Loved watching them with my children!
