New Orleans Beating Victim Says He Was Not Drunk

If you have viewed the tape of the beating of this man, you know they were using force. But, the two police officers pleaded not guilty to hitting him! The evidence is on the tape. There were witnesses that this man is trying to find - a white woman who tried to intervene and a policeman on a horse.

A New Orleans police spokesman said that the department didn't condone such behavior. He went on to say that the policemen were under lots of stress, having been on the job 12 hours at a time, and maybe lost all they had in the aftermath of Katrina. But, that doesn't give them the right to beat up on a man who was doing no wrong. According to the victim, he says he hasn't drank a drop in 25 years. He had a blackout spell and didn't remember how he got home, which prompted him to quit, according to an interview on television.

Two officers accused in the beating and another one, who grabbed and shoved a Associated Press Television News producer, were released on bond, and suspended from their jobs without pay. The U.S. Justice Department has started a civil rights investigation. But, Davis, the victim in this case, and the police officials, don't believe it was race related.
