This Dates Me!

On this day in history:

1947, "You Bet Your Life," starring Groucho Marx, premiered on ABC Radio. (It later became a television show on NBC.) The radio show ran from 1947 through 1956. I don't remember ever hearing the radio show, though.

NBC ran the television show from October 1950 until September 1960. I looked forward to Groucho Marx and his humor each week. It was a quiz show, but, each week, there was a secret word. And, if a contestant said the word during the show, they received an extra $100. And, the stuffed duck would fall from the ceiling and have the $100 in it's mouth. All contestants were picked for their ability to take barbs - and Groucho Marx had many of those!

Groucho Marx died on August 19, 1977.
