Christians concerned for Venezulea

President Hugo Chavez was granted sweeping powers to rule by decree for 18 months. Christians are afraid Christian freedom is about to change in Venezuela.

Voice of the Martyrs’ Todd Nettleton said, "President Hugo Chavez is gaining almost dictatorial powers over that country. He will be allowed to stay in office as long as he wants and basically rule the country by his decree."
Voice of the Martyrs has never ventured into Venezuela but they say it might soon change. Chavez is not only not a friend of the church, he's a friend of Fidel Castro. And, with this situation with him in power indefinitely and able to do whatever he pleases, there is a chance that things will change for the Christians. New Tribes Missions, a group from the US, had worked in Venezuela for 60 years, and last year they were thrown out by Chavez.

Nettleton says the best thing Christians can do is to pray for Chavez.

"Nettleton says the best thing Christians can do is to pray for Chavez."

"Pray that Hugo Chavez will come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,” he said. “What an impact that could have, not only on that country, but on the world, if this man would say, 'I'm now a follower of Christ.' It would change the way he governs. It would change that country."

I am here and although not with New Tribes, we were in the jungle working with indians and also had to leave. Prudence does not allow me to say much , but Prayer is needed.
