G. Subramanian, MD, Ph.D, and his colleagues state this in the Journal of the Ameican Medical Association: 'The most common human diseases culminate from long-standing interactions between many genes and enviromental factors (including lifestyle).' You can look at most diseases in this light: our genes load the gun: our negative emotions and environment load the gun and pull the trigger. pg 83

I began reading this book with the preconceived notion that Dr. Burke did not believe in miracles. But, I soon learned otherwise. But, he discusses in this book the differences in miracles and healings or 'unexplained healings' - something we layman may call a miracle.

Perhaps in this statement (our genes load the gun: our negative emotions and environment load the gun and pull the trigger), we learn that perhaps our body plays more of a part in 'if we are healed' than we really thought.

The vast majority of Americans believe that God uses doctors as his prime instrument of healing. pg 110
We know doctors play a big part in the health of our bodies. Most doctors are Christians and do pray before surgery for the wisdom of God to guide their hands and help them make the right decisions in any situation. When we turn our body over to a doctor we are expecting him to give us the best care possible. And, if a healing arises from that care, then most perceive he is God's instrument for that healing. But, sometimes, a healing is unexplained, even by a doctor.

God heals some and others may not get healed, and nobody knows the reason. Miracles are still performed today, but they seem to be far between. In fact, as this book relates, it is hard to find a true miracle today.

Through out the book, we are encouraged to pray for healing. We may not receive a miracle or even a healing, but we can confidently trust that He will do what is best for us.

When Dr. Gordon D. Fee, an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God, was asked, "Why pray?", his answer, in part, was "No healing has ever been deserved; it is always a gift of God's grace.....Healing, therefore, is not a divine obligation; it is a divine gift."pg 115
