Televangelist Rex Humbard dies

Rex Humbard, son of a minister and member of the Humbard Family Singers, died Friday in the hospital in Atlantis, Florida, at the age of 88.

Rev. Humbard is the minister who officiated at Elvis Presley's funeral. Elvis said Humbard was "his preacher".

In its Dec. 27, 1999 edition, U.S. News & World Report named Humbard one of the 25 shapers of the modern era.

The folksy televangelist was the son of a minister and a member of the Humbard Family Singers. He was born on Aug. 13, 1919 in Little Rock, Ark., and grew up in Hot Springs, Ark., where he was inducted into the Arkansas Walk of Fame in April 2007.

Rex Humbard has been married to Maude Aimee for 65 years. He also leaves behind 2 sons and a daughter, one brother, two sisters, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He will be buried in a local cemetery in Akron, Ohio.
