Thursday Thirteen 36

Things that have happened in weeks past since I have done a Thursday Thirteen

  1. My oldest grandson started college and is loving it. But, he isn't playing football. In fact, he turned down a scholarship - said he wasn't going to play. We were disappointed, but he knew best.
  2. This same grandson totaled his truck on the way home from taking his girlfriend from his home to hers. But, the good thing was, the estimate given to his Mom was more than she paid for the truck; therefore, they paid off the loan and had almost enough to buy another one. He finished paying for it - another bill off her.
  3. Our granddaughter (only one) has found a new beau. Yes, they go through them quickly now days. But, she says this is 'the one' ........ the one who has made her laugh more than all the others put together - the one that never upsets her - who has adored her from afar since she was in 4th grade. He used to watch her and her brother get off the bus at his neighbors' home - the woman who kept them after school.
  4. We had another truck to run off the road into our yard, downing 2 trees, and totaling a big tri-axle dump truck. He did not know the road, since he was down here from Tennessee, and was driving too fast. Thank goodness, nobody was hurt this time. Just spilled gas on our yard and the Environmental Protection Agency had to send out people to clean it up.
  5. We finally got enough needed rain last weekend. Now, our grass is growing again after being stagnant most of the summer.
  6. We learned that the people who get the bus tours together that my Mother and I enjoy so much will no longer be doing this. The husband has been too sickly. We certainly are going to miss those trips.
  7. My husband finally got called out on a job (he was retired, bought a tri-axle dump truck and went back to work) yesterday for the first time in almost four weeks. Man, was he happy. He didn't get to work today, but will work the rest of the week.
  8. The reason he didn't work today was - we buried one of his older sisters.
  9. We have spent the past 3 weeks in NICU and Palliative Care with his sister who had an aneurysm. She took violently sick at the gym 3 weeks ago this past Monday, went to the hospital where she experienced the aneurysm.
  10. She lives in another town about 2 hours away. My husband, another sister and I traveled there early this morning and got back around 8PM.
  11. We discovered we never want to be in NICU for any reason, especially as a patient. The doctors seem so disconnected from feelings there - it's all a business, it seems like. There is a way to tell someone that their loved one may die other than blurting out that they only have 1% chance of making it through the weekend - she undoubtedly proved them wrong on that one. She did die, but not on their time - on God's two weeks later.
  12. We were able to be with her most of time the last 4 days, after she was moved out of NICU and into another section of the hospital. We found our bodies can stand only so much time without rest or sleep.
  13. And, time goes on..........

Good list. Of course, if #3 turns out not to be the one, it would be bad form to remind her of her certainty! Don't be disappointed about #1. College is for learning, not playing games.

Nicholas, I'm not worried about my granddaughter and her #1 - :) I'm just glad she's particular with whom she keeps company and doesn't run with the wild crowd. So many kids get mixed up with the wrong people. My daughter has been very fortunate with her two teenagers choosing good friends. But, she has a younger teen boy and a boy 11 1/2. We'll see how they do as they grow up. Hope they make the same good choices.

As for our grandson, we were just disappointed for ourselves not getting to see him play football anymore, since he was so good. But, we are very happy he is going to college and didn't decide not to even go. For that, we are grateful!
