Thursday Thirteen - #37

I have not posted a Thursday Thirteen in months. So, here are some of the things that have gone in my life since then.

  1. My oldest grandson is in his second semester of his Freshman year of college.
  2. I bought myself a new digital camera - Canon s3 IS. I have truly enjoyed it. I am able to sit in the bleachers and make pictures at the games.
  3. Christmas was spent at home this year with our children and grandchildren coming over. We had dinner and opened gifts. Then they all went home - the older grandchildren wanted to see their boyfriend and girlfriend.
  4. We had a quiet time on New Year's Eve. My daughter's two younger boys were here for a week. Papa shot fireworks with them in the cold air. I stayed in the house. The next day, we all target practiced. I actually hit those little targets every time! So be careful when you come to rob my house. :)
  5. My husband has only got to work one day this year on his truck. Pray for his work! It has really slowed down. We are hoping it will pick up as the weather warms up.
  6. My husband had the flu this year. He was in bad shape for about two weeks. But, we think he will be fine now.
  7. I spent last Wednesday in the doctor's office with my 14 year old grandson. Had to pick him up at school and bring him to town to the Dr. He had the stomach virus and was out of school for the entire week.
  8. I was at my Mother's weekend before last for 3 days. Friday is the day I get my hair done at the beautician's, buy my Mother's groceries and go eat with her. Her septic tank went out. We spent Saturday getting it cleaned out. It still didn't work. We found out we could have had Roto-Rooter first and it would have been fine. We had that done on Sunday and the guy they sent out was not a real professional.
  9. I have been reading a 3 book series from John Aubrey Anderson called The Black or White Chronicles. I am almost through the third book. I highly recommend these books if you like fiction mixed with Christianity.
  10. I went to the first soccer games I've been able to attend last night. Two of my daughter's children are on the Varsity teams at school - boys and girls. They played at the same school. The girls beat 2-0, the first time to beat this school. The boys lost 5-2, and they usually beat them. My granddaughter is a captain of her team. The grandson had been sick the week before and didn't get to practice so we thought he would not play. But, he got to play half of both halves. He was excited and almost made a goal, but let an older player (a friend) jump in and make the play. He wishes now he had made the goal.
  11. I am back to birdwatching again. We have had lots of beautiful birds including a yellow-bellied sapsucker. The Blue Jay, Cardinal, Doves, and mocking birds have been in our back yard feeding already.
  12. I've been meaning to buy pansies to plant at my Mother's and also here at my home. But, i have yet to buy them. Guess I've gotten a little lazy!
  13. I woke up this morning not feeling too good. I had a headache and stopped up head. I slept most of the morning and didn't get on the computer until this afternoon. Hopefully, I'm not taking the flu!

Thursday Thirteen 36

Things that have happened in weeks past since I have done a Thursday Thirteen

  1. My oldest grandson started college and is loving it. But, he isn't playing football. In fact, he turned down a scholarship - said he wasn't going to play. We were disappointed, but he knew best.
  2. This same grandson totaled his truck on the way home from taking his girlfriend from his home to hers. But, the good thing was, the estimate given to his Mom was more than she paid for the truck; therefore, they paid off the loan and had almost enough to buy another one. He finished paying for it - another bill off her.
  3. Our granddaughter (only one) has found a new beau. Yes, they go through them quickly now days. But, she says this is 'the one' ........ the one who has made her laugh more than all the others put together - the one that never upsets her - who has adored her from afar since she was in 4th grade. He used to watch her and her brother get off the bus at his neighbors' home - the woman who kept them after school.
  4. We had another truck to run off the road into our yard, downing 2 trees, and totaling a big tri-axle dump truck. He did not know the road, since he was down here from Tennessee, and was driving too fast. Thank goodness, nobody was hurt this time. Just spilled gas on our yard and the Environmental Protection Agency had to send out people to clean it up.
  5. We finally got enough needed rain last weekend. Now, our grass is growing again after being stagnant most of the summer.
  6. We learned that the people who get the bus tours together that my Mother and I enjoy so much will no longer be doing this. The husband has been too sickly. We certainly are going to miss those trips.
  7. My husband finally got called out on a job (he was retired, bought a tri-axle dump truck and went back to work) yesterday for the first time in almost four weeks. Man, was he happy. He didn't get to work today, but will work the rest of the week.
  8. The reason he didn't work today was - we buried one of his older sisters.
  9. We have spent the past 3 weeks in NICU and Palliative Care with his sister who had an aneurysm. She took violently sick at the gym 3 weeks ago this past Monday, went to the hospital where she experienced the aneurysm.
  10. She lives in another town about 2 hours away. My husband, another sister and I traveled there early this morning and got back around 8PM.
  11. We discovered we never want to be in NICU for any reason, especially as a patient. The doctors seem so disconnected from feelings there - it's all a business, it seems like. There is a way to tell someone that their loved one may die other than blurting out that they only have 1% chance of making it through the weekend - she undoubtedly proved them wrong on that one. She did die, but not on their time - on God's two weeks later.
  12. We were able to be with her most of time the last 4 days, after she was moved out of NICU and into another section of the hospital. We found our bodies can stand only so much time without rest or sleep.
  13. And, time goes on..........

Thursday Thirteen #35

Thirteen Things I did today

1. Got up earlier than usual – I’m a late sleeper and a night owl!
2. Did my Mother’s hair and fixed her medication for next week.
3. Took my Mother for her check up at the Drs.
4. Took Mother to eat at Cracker Barrel and had deep-fried Catfish! Yummy!
5. Picked up a few odds and ends at Wal Mart. Never can go near that store without having to go in and buy something!
6. Picked up one of my grandson’s a chicken sandwich at McDonald’s.
7. Washed 2 loads of clothes.
8. Filled my dishwasher and washed the dishes.
9. Took some pictures of the sunset this afternoon for a Flickr challenge. Mine aren’t all that good. But, some of the others really outdid themselves! My sky didn’t co-operate.
10. Watched the Country Music Awards with my husband. My favorite country singer, George Strait, won best song of the year. He should have been best Entertainer and best album. But, guess some of the others needed the win more.
11. Looked at flowers and longed to buy some for my pots outside. But I decided it was too hot right now to plant flowers. Besides, we’ve not had any rain in weeks! There’s going to be a water shortage and why pay for flowers you may not be able to keep alive
12. Emailed friends after getting on the computer. I’m actually ON my laptop, and my grandsons aren’t for a change. My daughter’s two younger boys are here – ages 11 & 13, and they love my laptop.
13. Stayed up too long tonight (I'm addicted to this laptop!)! I must get in the bed. My husband was off today and he will be off tomorrow. So, I need to get in bed – morning comes EARLY with him.

Thursday Thirteen #34

Thirteen Thoughts Today

  1. Today, my oldest grandson, Josh, graduates from high school. He will be leaving home in a few months for college. He'll be leaving behind Mom, and 3 siblings (2 brothers and a sister - she will graduate next year).
  2. Josh is all grown up and it seems like only yesterday we were in the hospital the day she had him, holding that little man in our arms.
  3. I finished my scrapbook for Josh late last night. Had to have the help of hubby to put it back together. It is so nice, even if I do say so. Hope he enjoys it.
  4. My back has almost killed me (I said ALMOST) :) doing this scrapbook. Too much bending over the DR table to match corners, line up things - you name it. It was a chore, but one I enjoyed doing.
  5. My husband is working today and, hopefully, he'll get home in time to get ready so we won't have to fly to get there on time. They live an hour from us.
  6. My sinus is bothering me and I have been coughing like crazy this morning.
  7. I have had to press shirts and pants for this graduation this morning - getting every thing ready for a fast get away. Did I say we are 'living in the fast lane?'
  8. I am looking at 4 books I have to review here. I have started one and had one behind it, only to get two more in the mail yesterday. Will I ever finish them on time?
  9. It is beautiful outside. Just wish I had time to enjoy it and go do some photography.
  10. Josh has a big surprise ahead of him tonight. We all went together and bought his laptop and carrying case to take to college. He is 'hoping' he will get his uncle's older laptop he isn't using to take to school. IS he going to be surprised! He has no clue!
  11. My daughter called. Her daughter got her cast off her foot today, but they put her in a walking cast for probably 2 weeks. A small part of the bone had not grown together enough to let her stand permanently on that foot. My daughter says it is worse and larger than the cast, plus has a high foot on it, making it impossible to wear flipflops or anything with a small heel. Terrible to put a young girl in that thing! Hopefully, she won't have to wear it too long.
  12. I should be up taking my bath, getting my hair done, etc., but I'm addicted to this laptop, so I thought I'd run off a TT for you all to read. I know it's been boring, though. But, hopefully, you will come back for more at a later date. You can read my post This is the day It's about graduation.
  13. Did I say I have run out of ideas for Thursday Thirteen. Apparently, my brain isn't functioning properly or is in the wrong gear. Maybe I can come up with something later on that will be different. Right now, it's hard to think - wait until after graduation tonight.

Thirteen things in my refrigerator

  1. Broccoli – I love it in tossed salad, or steamed
  2. Cauliflower – same as broccoli – it’s good
  3. Tomatoes – Salad is not complete without tomatoes. And, we love tomato sandwiches. My husband takes a pear tomato in his lunch every day.
  4. Radishes – one more vegetable we put in our salads
  5. Ham – my husband loves ham sandwiches made out of the very thin ham.
  6. Milk – we drink lots of milk daily!
  7. Sweet tea – we make it by the gallon because we drink lots of it!
  8. Mayonnaise – used on our sandwiches, in potato salad
  9. Lemon juice – I love lemon juice in my tea
  10. Apples – my husband eats an apple almost daily – “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”.
  11. Flour, Meal – I keep these things in the refrigerator to keep them fresh and bugless!
  12. Leftovers – If a little tidbit is left after a meal, we put it in the refrigerator. Well, we might throw it out later, but right then, we ‘mean’ to eat it.
  13. Pickles – we use sliced pickles, dill pickle relish, sweet pickle relish, kosher dills, Sweet Gherkins – you name it, we eat them.

Thursday Thirteen #32

Thoughts from my weekend in Memphis, TN and Oxford, MS, with my daughter, her daughter and youngest son. It would have been a girly trip - we just had a guy along.
  1. We left early Saturday morning for a 4 hour trip to Memphis, TN, in the rain. Of course, that's 4 hours straight driving, not stopping to eat, etc.
  2. The trip was to take my grandson to a traveling soccer team's 2 day tournament.
  3. There were hundreds of boys and girls at the tournament. My grandson's team was the 12 year olds, although most, including my grandson are not 12. But, they play like older boys!
  4. Our team tied the first game, won the 2nd one 3-2, and lost the 3rd one 2-0. The 3rd game was terrible, considering the other team played, according to one of their parents, 'however they think the referee will call the game'. They found out quickly he was going to let anything go, so they played mean - trying to hurt our players. In fact, one young man on the other team was a big boy, and he kept trying to take out our players illegally, and you'd think he would have been carded, but he only got one foul called on him.
  5. We found the Soccer Complex with no problem, just as we entered Memphis. But, it wasn't that easy to read the Google Map we were provided in order to find our motel. We went around the 'moon' to find it and finally had to call the coach to lead us out of the wilderness. But, we all had a big laugh over it - laughed so hard we cried! Had we stayed a few days longer, we'd have had Memphis roads down pat!
  6. After losing the 3rd game on Sunday morning, we left my grandson with his coach and son to go swimming, and we headed out of Memphis toward Oxford, MS.
  7. We stopped to eat lunch at the nearest Pizza Hut and it was delicious! The only thing - I got gone and realized I had not left a tip, which made us feel bad. But, we were in a hurry - not wanting to get home at midnight. My daughter had to go to work the next day.
  8. We made it to Oxford, MS without any mishaps, although we had no map to get there.
  9. My granddaughter had to make pictures of her at designated places having to do with the author William Faulkner. The town was one we felt very comfortable in. It was our first trip there, and we'd all love to go back. Nice people gave us directions.
  10. My granddaughter had her picture made first at the home of William Faulkner which was sort of 'in the woods', although in town. We had to walk a long way from a dirt path to get to the house. I don't know if that is the way he lived or they have kept it private. Maybe they didn't expect as many visitors on the small single-lane road and turn around.
  11. The biggest trial for my granddaughter was walking up the steps of the Square Books store to have her picture made in the corner of the upstairs room where Faulkner's books were in the Fiction section. You have to know she has a cast on her left foot and is on crutches - cannot put any pressure on her foot. She was amazing!
  12. We visited the City Hall where she posed with the statue of Faulkner, and had her picture made in the corner old phone booth, where she almost got locked in. And, then we went off to the Cemetery where she posed at his tomb. There were visitors there, too.
  13. And, last but not least, we all took a trip through Ole'Miss. She had to have her picture made in front of a big building in the center of the circle inside the college. It is called the Lyceum building.

13 Things I wish would change

13 Things I wish would change

  1. People’s thinking on a few things – gun control, for instance, and that it’s the GUNS that cause the problems. No amount of gun control is going keep a criminal of using a gun, if they are going to commit a crime. Criminals will get guns when those of us who are law-abiding citizens could not.
  2. Political Correctness – which is soon going to make it a crime to say anything derogatory against anyone or anything. Free speech is almost gone from our society.
  3. The teaching of diversity sex education in any school!
  4. The slower speed limit across town because of the many wrecks caused by big rigs carrying rolls of metal. Speed isn’t causing them to lose their load; the placement of the load on the flatbed is the problem. Make it mandatory to have the correct flatbeds to keep the rolls on the rig.
  5. The ability of insurance companies to rip their clients off!
  6. Age-discrimination against the older generation at work.
  7. People in prison who have been found to be innocent to be able to get retribution when they come out. Most of them have lives that were ruined because of imprisonment.
  8. For people to quit downing the war, even if they feel they have a legitimate reason. It doesn’t help the morale of those soldiers in Iraq or those going there in the future; After all, these men and women have gone in to fight for our country and don’t need to hear the negativism from back home.
  9. The price of gas to come down and stay down!
  10. Our federal taxes go to a flat tax which would be fair to everyone.
  11. Every child to want to read and love it! Reading has always been an interest to me and I encouraged my children to read as much as they could. A child does not know what he/she is missing, if they have no interest in reading.
  12. Government to get out of our lives!
  13. Everyone to come to know the love of God.

Thursday Thirteen 29

Thirteen Things I do not like
  1. Cars cutting me off in traffic – they will pass, almost hitting me, and then get right in front and start slowing down, only to make a right hand turn. Why can’t they have a little patience?
  2. Having a conversation with someone, and, when someone else comes up and interrupts, the person you were talking to just dismisses your conversation and starts up one with the other person. Makes you feel a little like you are not important.
  3. Seeing a ‘for sale’ ad, going to the store, and finding they don’t even have the product. Then, they refuse to give you a rain check. It was all a gimmick to get you into the store, hoping you would buy something more expensive. I usually leave the store without buying anything.
  4. Having my schedule interrupted by others changing their minds, or games being cancelled, or played in another location.
  5. Having something, like a car or truck, supposedly ‘fixed’, only to find they not only didn’t fix what was wrong, but tore up something else in trying to fix it. Then, they expect you to pay them for what they did!
  6. Having my power cut off for work to be done – and they don’t give us a little cut in our power usage cost. After all, we have done without; why should they be paid?
  7. Ordering something from an online company, and it taking forever to get it. Or, ordering from someone on Ebay, who is supposed to be honest, and then, they don’t answer emails and fail to send the product for weeks, or may not send it at all.
  8. Being intentionally lied to, and the person knows I know they are lying.
  9. The continuous coverage of something on TV that doesn’t mean a hill of beans to the average person. Yet, they think we need to know. Oh, I know there are people out there that strive on this kind of stuff – but enough is enough!
  10. Obnoxious or distasteful ads on television.
  11. That satellite/cable TV doesn’t allow the subscriber to put together their own program schedules of things they like, rather than having to pay for numerous channels we never watch – like all the music channels, and MTV.
  12. That the color black comes in so many shades. You can never match something black from one designer with something from another – colors vary so much it looks tacky.
  13. The barrage of words directed at President Bush and his cabinet about the way they have done their job, and that Bush needs to be impeached. It is all so ridiculous!

Thursday Thirteen #28

Things of which I'd love to have 13!

  1. 13 pairs of all the colors of hose I wear. I’m forever running my finger through a pair at the last moment. Also, I usually tear a pair up when I wear a particular pair of high heels!
  2. 13 pair of black slacks in the kind I wear all the time. I’m tall, and apparently, the manufacturers choose not to make tall slacks in too many choices of color like they once did. AND, I do love black. I tell everyone I wear black, THEN, I change to BLACK – joke!
  3. 13 good books to read – I’m almost there. I review books, but I’ve also bought several myself, and 4 on the way,
  4. 13 ways to say nicely that I don’t like certain music that is played at church.
  5. 13 soft pairs of walking shoes. I go between 2 pair, brown and black. I need a dressier pair for slacks and suits.
  6. 13 Purses to go with each pair in the right color – easily changeable to the next one! I usually take around one purse, regardless of what I am wearing. I hate to change things over.
  7. CLOSETS! You never have enough, regardless of how many you put in a new home! IF I could build mine over, I would have one BIG room just for clothes!! I get tired of changing clothes from one closet to another during different seasons.
  8. 13 tickets to a great live show – I’d take the 10 in our family and 3 close friends. Or, that might work out to be the two teenagers girlfriend/boyfriend and ONE of my close friends.
  9. Trips I could get my husband to go on, starting with a trip to the mountains, and then to The Biltmore house.
  10. 13 pots of spring/summer flowers to set out. My yard and patio looks so blank right now.
  11. 13 cards for my husband’s new camera, for when he loses another one! He has lost a 2G two times. He found it the first time. I found it last night – right where he put it and had already looked 2 times. I told him he’d never get rid of me, considering I could go behind him and find almost anything he misplaced. I got a hug!
  12. 13 tickets to a big lottery – I never buy them, but perhaps the 13th one would be my lucky charm!  We could use it for our grandkids.
  13. 13 more ideas for another Thursday Thirteen

Thursday Thirteen #27

13 of my favorite Bible verses

1. Psalms 23:1, " The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."
2. John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
3. Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
4. Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
5. Nehemiah 8:10, "Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
6. James 5:16, "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
7. 3 John 1:2, "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."
8. Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
9. James 1:4, "But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."
10. The whole book of ESTHER – the life of Esther is so wonderful to read.

Esther appears in the Bible as a "woman of deep piety, faith, courage, patriotism, and caution, combined with resolution; a dutiful daughter to her adopted father, docile and obedient to his counsels, and anxious to share the king's favour with him for the good of the Jewish people. There must have been a singular grace and charm in her aspect and manners, since 'she obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her' (Esther 2:15). That she was raised up as an instrument in the hand of God to avert the destruction of the Jewish people, and to afford them protection and forward their wealth and peace in their captivity, is also manifest from the Scripture account." - Matthew Henry Commentary.

11. Ephesians 6:12, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
12. 1 Corinthians 13:1, "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal."
13. 1 Corinthians 13:13, "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity."

And, one for the road: 1 John 4:8, "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

ThursdayThirteen #26

Things I have done this past week

  1. Had problems with Firefox and my blog. Turns out, the problem was with the cache in Firefox. I spent days aggravated at the wrong thing!
  2. Took my son's advice to clear the cache and my problem solved itself. My site would not load the front page. Had to go through a back door to even get it. And, certain graphics were not loading. Now, it's fine! Thanks to my son.
  3. Took my Mother shopping for her birthday gift. I finally bought her a beautiful jacket at Parisian's.
  4. Took Mother out to eat at Fire Mountain. She really enjoys this, and especially getting out of the house, since she only drives to Church or to the Post Office.
  5. Did my Mother's hair on Friday for her to supposedly go out to eat on Saturday with my brother.
  6. Went to my Mother's 90th surprise birthday party at the local community center in her hometown. She was very surprised. Lots of people showed up.
  7. Saw many people I hadn't seen in years, including some kinfolks.
  8. Went to the wedding of a young girl I have known all her life at our church in the evening. Beautiful bride.
  9. Helped clean up the church after the activities were over.
  10. My husband took me out to eat Saturday night after the long day. Really enjoyed the barbecue dinner.
  11. Attended church on Sunday and went with my husband to Office Max to buy him a new hard drive for his computer.
  12. Downloaded the many pictures taken of my two oldest grandchildren before they went to the Jr/Sr Prom. My daughter had to send them from Kodak, and it took for ages for them to arrive at our mailbox.
  13. Picked up my daughter's youngest son on Tuesday morning. This is Spring break for his school, and he's staying until Friday afternoon. His brother just older than him just got back from Florida with friends today. His older brother and sister are both in Florida until Sunday. He has spent a week in Florida the past two summers, and they stayed home. So, he stayed home this week and came to Papa and Nanny's.

Thursday Thirteen #25

Thirteen random things on my mind today
  1. For the 8th day of March, it is beautiful outside - gorgeous sun shining through my windows. And the temperature is already up to 69 degrees at 11AM.
  2. Sad morning for our neighbor, who lost his wife to cancer on Monday afternoon.
  3. Our neighbor, who is only 5 mos younger than me, will be buried today. She had only quit work a few months ago after working all her life. She was the manager of a large clothing store. She only found out how sick she really was after quitting work.
  4. My husband had to work and is unable to go to the funeral. We both went to the viewing last night. The funeral home was jam-packed with friends and relatives and people with whom she worked.
  5. I'm trying my best to get back to regular blogging. I go for a few days posting, and then my mind goes blank. Well, actually I have lots of ideas for posts. I just can't get them in order. Don't know whether my mind is over worked or just giving into getting older. :)
  6. I need to figure out what I am going to fix for dinner tonight. I would like to have something great, but I want an easy recipe for 'great'. Any suggestions?
  7. I read A Chelsea Morning, and I tell you, Barb really makes me want to tend to my house more! I tell you, that girl has energy! And, she has great recipes!
  8. I dread going to Rachel's funeral today and having to say goodbye to such a sweet person. I'll always remember her as having been the person that helped my husband buy my gifts at Christmas. She was then the manager of the Tall Department in a large store in town. He could walk in, tell her to find him some nice clothes she could wear (we were both the same size then) and she'd load him down for Christmas! Everyone loved her. One young woman she worked with told me Tuesday, at the store, that she'd never know the many lives on which she had an impact. Don't we all want to be known for that!
  9. I'm sitting here writing my Thursday Thirteen when I should be either cleaning house, or getting ready to go to the funeral.
  10. You can see housecleaning and funeral has my mind occupied this morning.
  11. Saturday is our only granddaughter's 17th birthday. She is Captain of the Varsity Soccer team and they have a game Friday night. Hopefully, we will be able to attend.
  12. I need to get with the plan and get out and exercise! I need to lose some weight but it's hard to exercise or walk by yourself. I'm not usually a procrastinator, but this one has me buffaloed! I'm going to have to buckle down and WALK! I need a partner.
  13. Last thought: live life to the fullest today. We never know when it will be our last. Give of your best, love lots, and most of all hug your spouse/children every day!

Thursday Thirteen #24

Thirteen Things about my day....
  1. First, it took reading She Lives to find out, once again, I had forgotten to enter my TT early.
  2. Got up EARLY with my husband to go out to breakfast. We must be glutton for punishment in this weather.
  3. Ate a full breakfast meal out instead of my usual sausage biscuit. But, I did not eat the gravy put on my plate.
  4. Changed my clothes this morning because my husband thinks this black coat looks better on me than my rust-colored suede jacket. I wanted to wear more comfortable brown shoes, but I changed to please him. What we won't do to keep hubby happy!
  5. Read about 20 pages in the new review book I have - Shoes for the Spirit: Encouragements I did this sitting in my SUV while my husband shopped in pawn shops. I was staying warm!
  6. Watched the birds in my backyard feed from our bird feeders. There were, at one time, about 10 Cardinals. And, I saw my first woodpecker this season. But, he got away before we could get a picture.
  7. Against my better judgement (lazy self), I did some washing today. I remember the days when we had to hang out all our wash. Thank goodness I don't have to hang it out today. It would be frozen.
  8. Took a nap here in my seat, with my laptop by me. I was still sleepy from having gotten less sleep Tuesday night than the usual for me.
  9. Tried taking a picture of the Cardinals out my windows. But, my camera kept giving me an error message. I just put it down.
  10. I blogged on the peanut butter recall. And, when I checked in my cabinet, I had one of the recalled jars. And, I have been eating it. I have also had nausea and light-headedness, but could not put my finger on the problem. Now, I'm thinking it's peanut butter. Quickly told my kids to get rid of theirs - I know my daughter uses one of those brands. And, her 13 yr old had experienced the same thing I did, at a higher degree. I had him in the doctor's office 2 weeks ago with it. The tests showed a viral infection. I think it's from peanut butter!
  11. Actually let my husband turn our heat up because I was cold. We keep our gas logs on low in our Den and really don't need too much heat, otherwise. But I had to admit it was needed this afternoon.
  12. Read most of the blogs I frequent today. I need to update my list from my PC to my laptop.
  13. Decided to do this Thursday Thirteen, although I am late! Never know who might need to read this. :)

Smells I love
Thanks to Caryle for the thought from last week.

  1. Apple Cinnamon Room spray
  2. The breeze coming from the ocean on a windy day.
  3. The fresh cut pine trees. The air just feels with this smell, and it's wonderful.
  4. A freshly bathed baby that has been lavished with a good smelling baby lotion. Nothing smells better.
  5. The smell of BRUT on my man.
  6. Palmolive Dishwashing liquid with the new apple smell
  7. Homemade yeast bread, coming fresh out of the oven. I could eat a whole loaf of bread or pan of rolls.
  8. Roasting marshmallows on a bonfire in the Fall.
  9. Bath and Body Works' Vanilla liquid moisturizing hand soap.
  10. A bouquet of fresh cut flowers.
  11. A new suede coat
  12. Krispy Kreme donuts - YUM, YUM!
  13. Freshly washed linens.

Thursday Thirteen #22

Ever have your mind blocked, and you can't get a clear picture of what you need to say? That is my predicament tonight, writing my 22nd Thursday Thirteen. So I decided to just talk about things on my mind.

Things I Have On My Mind

  1. My son is coming down on Saturday to do a few things to my laptop. We have a wireless set up, and I want to be able to print to my printer from my laptop. I also want to be able to get things off my PC in another room, when it is on.
  2. I've been thinking of buying a keyboard. I have looked at a few, but haven't really made up my mind whether to buy now or wait awhile.
  3. My grandson is a senior in high school, about to head off to college. He is wanting to continue to play football in college. And, he has not decided where he will be going. He is a kicker, so a scholarship is probably out unless he makes it as a walk-on. I worry about how they will afford college.
  4. We may be in for some bad weather, and our home gas tank is almost empty. We heat with electricity, but we use our gas logs here in our Den most of the time, and I am afraid we will run out of gas at the wrong time.
  5. I need to get serious about doing some deep house cleaning. It has just not been at the top of my agenda, as I get older. Anyone identify?
  6. I am wondering, with the chance of bad weather, if we will have our Ladies' Luncheon tomorrow at Olive Garden.
  7. The temperature has been going up and down all night. One meteorologist says we will have bad weather - another one says it's probably unlikely. And, the chance of rain has gone up and down for tomorrow, but the radar map keeps showing us getting lots of heavy rain.
  8. I need to clean closets again. Only thing, when I go through them, I hate to throw anything out!
  9. I need to take my black pants suit to the cleaners. I keep forgetting.
  10. I look forward to Spring in order to plant some flowers. I want to see some color in my yard.
  11. I want to go out and do some photography, especially of birds. We haven't had that many in our yard this winter.
  12. We now have sleet coming down in our yard. I hope it isn't bad in the morning for my kids to go to work and the teenagers to drive to school. They live farther NE than we do, and it is going to be worse than in the Central part of the state.
  13. I made it through another Thursday Thirteen. I need to think up some more topics!

Thursday Thirteen #21

I have forgotten it was time for Thursday Thirteen many times lately until it's too late to put my TT up. Almost did the same thing today, and find there are already up to over 200 entries. So, today, mine will be about those things that I sometimes forget.

Things I sometimes forget

  1. I make out my grocery list, and if my husband doesn't go with me and pick it up, most of the time I'm at the store without it. But, most of the time, I can visualize what I wrote on the list and come away with most of the groceries.
  2. I forget to check our phone messages when we return from an outing. Sometimes, it might be a few days later when I pick up the phone just to check messages.
  3. I forgot to plant my Fall pansies in my flower boxes outside. I had meant to do this all Fall, since they will last until the hottest part of summer, but never got around to it this year or last year.
  4. My son says I forget to tell him about family matters, although I don't think I'm always guilty. I think his memory is going bad. :)
  5. I forget the time at night, when I get busy on the Internet, until I am so sleepy, my eyes just won't stay open, and I wake up, finding my laptop still sitting on my lap!
  6. I am constantly forgetting to make sure I have an umbrella in the car for that unexpected rain. They manage to be in the house or in the truck.
  7. I forget to water my house plants, something I used to could remember very well. My daughter gave me a flower for Christmas and told me she had better not come and find it dying. I sat it on the kitchen table so I would remember to water it. So far, I've done that.
  8. I forget to take my clothes to the cleaners until I need something that has not made it there yet. Which reminds me.........
  9. I have forgotten to pick up my purse when eating out. Got nearly home once and realized my cell phone wasn't in the car - and neither was my purse which is where my phone would have been. Thank goodness the waitress saw it and put it under the counter for me.
  10. Parked my car in large parking lots I was not familiar with (new malls) and forgot where it was and had to hunt it. You walk the parking lot, hoping nobody recognizes you and thinks you are crazy.
  11. I forget to do the Church bulletin and find myself scrambling to get it done for the Sunday morning service.
  12. I want to see a certain show on television and do not set it to record. Then, I forget what time or day it is on, and miss it.
  13. And, I forget to do my Thursday Thirteen on time. But, here I am today!
