Has America gone bonkers?

I love my country. Many of my relatives have served in the military including my husband and my brother. I am proud to be an American. I think this is the best place to be in the world. But, I am having a problem with things going on here in America right now. I would hope many others out there feel the same as I do. America is changing, and it is not for the better, although many may feel that it is.

I just read a news article this morning stating that the Colorado Governor had okayed open bathrooms! Transgender has been added to the list for non-discrimination. This means that someone can pose as Transgender, whether they or are not, and have access to either the women's or men's bathrooms in a public setting. I was shocked, to say the least. This is taking non-discrimination a little too far, in my opinion.

Although there was an amendment that would protect churches, synagogues, mosque, or other areas strictly used for religious purposes, others might not be so lucky. A sexual predator could find a victim as easily as visiting one of these open bathrooms.

What is America coming to? We have hurried to accomodate 'all' in order not to offend anyone. But, what is it doing for the average American who is a law-abiding citizen and wants only to live a normal life - something that is quickly dissipating around here? What happens to the employers who are Christian companies and are against this lifestyle? They will be forced to do something against their conscience simply because you have a Governor who is into appeasing everyone at the cost of many!

We've had same-sex marriages legalized in Massachussetts and California. They are being considered in New York. Where will it stop?

In my life time, I've seen many changes and most not for the better. As a student in school, there was always a feeling of peace. We had a morning devotional on the loudspeaker by a student and a prayer. Anyone was able to speak about God opening, and praying was not prohibited at school functions. In fact, it was encouraged. Even then, we had a diversity of religions in our school, but you never heard of anyone being offended. But, as outside religions began to find their way into America, the government steps in along with other organizations to make sure everyone is protected, even if it offends others. As for Christianity, it has begun to be pushed aside to make room for these 'diverse' religions. Christians are discouraged on sharing their gospel while these others are given free reign. We are told not to pray in our schools while some school systems have made room for some to have their 'prayer time' in order to make them feel wanted. This is a slap in the face to Christians!

Where has equality gone? Right out the door! Leave it to the government to become so involved in our lives that they are ruining this very country we live in. Where has their claim to 'separation of church and state' gone when they allow some to do what they have stopped Christians from doing?

Below is something that Thomas Jefferson, principle author of the Declaration of Independence and third president of the United States had to say:

• I consider the government of the United States as interdicted by the Constitution from intermeddling in religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline, or exercises. This results not only from the provision that no law shall be made respecting the establishment or free exercise of religion, but from that also which reserves to the states the powers not delegated to the United States. Certainly, no power to prescribe any religious exercise or to assume authority in religious discipline has been delegated to the General Government. It must rest with the States, as far as it can be in any human authority (letter to Samuel Miller, Jan. 23, 1808).

Regardless to what some might say, God is being shoved out of America little by little. And, I don't believe He is happy with what He is seeing today in America. A nation once prosperous has been going down for sometime. Congress has not allowed oil companies to drill in the US or it's surrounding waters, so we have to rely on outside companies to provide us with what we are in need of. That brings on a higher price, something America is feeling today at the gas pumps. Taxes and wages have gotten so high that many companies have taken their business operations overseas where they get cheap labor, ship it back to the US where we usually get cheap products for a higher price. Today, it is getting harder for a teenager to find a job because companies that hire teenagers are finding themselves slowing going down hill because the rise in prices is causing people to reconsider the need to shop as much as they once did. Also the influx of illegals who will work for less wages has influenced the market as well.

Political Correctness versus Freedom

Am I alone, or do others see Political Correctness destroying the very freedoms our forefathers worked for us to have?

But Political Correctness remains just what it was intended to be: a sophisticated and dangerous form of censorship and oppression, imposed upon the citizenry with the ultimate goal of manipulating, brainwashing and destroying our society.

There seems to be a growing need of those supporting PC to make laws to restrict almost everything we hold dear. We are suppose to have freedom of speech, but with PC, it has eroded so much that we now have to police our speech so not to offend anyone or chance a lawsuit against us.

It is changing the American society from within, and the citizens of this nation are increasingly censoring themselves and losing their freedom of speech out of fear of Political Correctness repression.

It is the nature of Western Civilization to be civilized – respectful of others and concerned with correcting injustices. We don't need Political Correctness to make us think we are not civilized on our own and must have our thoughts and words restricted.

The schools have adopted a 'no tolerance' policy. Children are put in detention, suspended, or maybe even expelled for minor reasons that could have been taken care of by school administration. But, due to PC, the children have to bear the results of an over-zealous society that wants to appease everyone and every religion this side of heaven!

Also, it's coming to the church you attend: just watch for it.There is a chance your pastor will not be able to preach against things such as homosexuality or gay marriages. Although the Bible teaches against these things, again, the appeasement crowd is hurrying to get it outlawed. It is a an attempt to pacify those who don't believe the way you do at the expense of the principle of truth of the Word.

Freedom has eroded in our country. And, it is going to get worse. There will be no backpeddling. It seems that most assume to appease the enemy is to make him less likely to strike out. We should know better by now. While we are held responsible for things we do or say, others outside of Christianity are not. In 2001, school children found that, while they were being told there could be no display of anything pertaining to Christmas, a middle school student in Texas was able to show a video of her muslim religion. In two schools in California, during 2002, they were having students to attend a 3 week course on Islam and pretend to be warriors for Islam.

This arbitrary double standard was applied in the name of Political Correctness following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Political Correctness has become pandemic. If we don't come against it, we will be come a totalitarian country and the government will rule every aspect of our lives. They have invaded them enough already. If we want to continue to be free, our freedom of speech must be preserved. It is slowly slipping away.

That means you go to your local voting places and vote for the candidate you believe will most represent your views, and then hold his hands to the fire (i.e., telephone calls, emails, and faxes which remind him why he was elected!). Right now, we have too many lifers in there who have too much to do with special interests groups and will do anything to get elected.

In Remembrance of 9-11

THE DAY AMERICA CRIED

Mornings are for waking up happy, going on with your business, and enjoying life. After all, the weekend is over; it's the beginning of a beautiful new day given to you by the Lord. But the morning of September 11, 2001 wasn't to be one of those mornings that were so simple. Nothing could have prepared us for the tragedy of the morning. If someone had said to me, the World Trade Center will be bombed today, I would have said you have to be kidding! And, I would have meant it. This is the land of freedoms - a family sometimes divided, but together in times of trials. Things like that just do not happen in our country. But, today would change my thought pattern - it does happen, and it did happen!

I was sleeping a little later that morning and my husband came in and told me that my daughter was on the phone. He also said, come in the computer room - the World Trade Center is on fire. I don't think that he actually knew it was a plane that had hit it at the time, or perhaps he did. My memory of that morning is like a haze. We sat there and looked in horror. Our fears were found to be true - it wasn't an accident. Another plane hit the south tower right before our eyes.

I look back now and realize, at the moment of the second plane hit on that tower, and the aftermath of the explosion, that we knew it was terrorism, but we didn't know who would have wanted to strike beautiful America, and right in the heart of downtown Manhattan. After all, these were buildings with multiple tenants from all over the world. Everyone was affected, not just America. Thousands of workers, and hundreds of rescue workers and policemen were lost, without a reason! The enemy came to our country, took our own planes, and unsuspecting people, and used them as bombs against us.

As we watched the men and women come out of that building, run down the streets, or being helped by others, we were horrified. Our hearts went out to them - tears stung our eyes. We didn't know any of them by person, but felt for them - the things that they had to undergo and the time it will take to heal. Our hearts went out to the many families that lost loved ones, and never will be able to put closure on that part of their lives, having no body to bury. The very thought made me angry. Like others, I suppose I would have gone after the person/persons responsible, if it were possible. Sure, the terrorists that did the acts were dead, but someone had set this act up, and someone will pay.

America's heartland has been scarred, and we cried tears. But, if the enemy thought that he would tear out our hearts, he has another thought coming. As someone said on television, we are family. Families bicker amongst themselves, but when attacked, families stick together. America is united more in Spirit and cause than I have ever seen in my lifetime. We will go after those responsible and AMERICA WILL RISE AGAIN!

Memorial Day 2007

Today, we honor the memory of all our service men and women who were killed in the line of duty during the wars fought by the US Military.

The Iraqi war is the freshest in our minds, and many women and men have lost their lives in the line of duty. These were very patriotic men and women, with many of them joining the military at a time of war, when there was no draft.

As we each celebrate in our own way, may we always have the thoughts of those fallen men and women in our hearts. They paid the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy here at home.

How much of America will remain American?

I just came across this bit of news over at The Jaded News site today.

*Roads and bridges built with tax-payer dollars are beginning to be sold off to foreign countries – as if selling our major ports to Dubai wasn’t enough. An Austral-Spanish Company has begun buying toll roads in Indiana, bridges in Alabama, and several other states, even though many of these roads are already paid for. But Robert Poole of the conservative think-tank the Reason Foundation (as in complete lack-of) says this isn’t such a bad idea, because private investors can better raise money for roads than can politicians. And in the mean time, should we ever be on opposite sides of a conflict from Australia, these roads and bridges will be unusable.

I had not heard one thing about this tidbit of information. But, upon investigating today, I ran across a piece at CBS News - Foreign Companies Buy U.S. Roads, Bridges. Seems some states are selling off these to make cash. But, where does that leave the American people? When the toll roads are bought, and foreign companies raise the tolls, where does the money go? Surely not into a fund to rebuild the roads for America - but right into the hands of foreigners.

Roads and bridges built by U.S. taxpayers are starting to be sold off, and so far foreign-owned companies are doing the buying.

On a single day in June, an Australian-Spanish partnership paid $3.8 billion to lease the Indiana Toll Road. An Australian company bought a 99-year lease on Virginia's Pocahontas Parkway, and Texas officials decided to let a Spanish-American partnership build and run a toll road from Austin to Seguin for 50 years.

Orange County, Calif., got burned by a toll-road lease for a different reason.

The road, part of state Route 91, was built and run for $130 million by California Private Transportation Company, partly owned by France-based Compagnie Financiere et Industrielle des Autoroutes. The toll road opened in 1995.

Seven years later, Orange County was looking at gridlock. But it could not build more roads because of a provision in the lease. So it bought back the lease _ for $207.5 million.

Former Secretary of Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta believes it is time for US investors to get involved in transportations investments. He believes our financial, construction and engineering institutions should get involved.

Not everyone in Texas is buying Governor Rick Perry's vision of attracting private funds for building more roads by 2030. He wants to lease out 3 toll roads to be built by private contractors. But, Harris County voted against selling the 3 toll roads.

Carol Keeton Strayhorn is the independent governatorial candidate in Texas. She opposes Perry's plan. She says "Texas freeways belong to Texans, not foreign companies".

Ward Churchill becomes a canker for U of Colorado

Canker sores can be very painful. There are numerous treatments for these sores of the mouth, which are sometimes called ulcers. You can apply pain-relieving compounds, mouth washes, and salt water rinses. But, sometimes it takes cauterizing the canker sore in order to speed healing. But, you have to be careful to apply only to the canker sore itself, and not damage the surrounding healthy tissue as well as the lips and gums.

To me, Ward Churchill is like that canker sore in the mouth, only he is a canker of the University of Colorado. He does every professor there an injustice!

CU's Interim Chancellor announced plans to fire (i.e., cauterize) Churchill on multiple grounds of serious research misconduct only a few days before Churchill gave a speech at Baltimore's Mid-Atlantic Radical Book Fair.

For the first half hour, Churchill attacked CU's Investigative report on his academic misconduct, downplaying the findings as merely "a matter of a few footnotes." Next, Churchill switched subject matter and commentary, which included:

Churchill threw lots of punches, including frequent Nazi references, and comparing others to the Nazis. He also "compared CU Boulder to German university models from the WWII Nazi era." But, the worse was when he made a joke concerning the 9/11 passengers on the hijacked planes.

"You do remember, the incident which the terrorists overpowered the stewardess on the aircraft and tweezed her eyebrows with his tweezers, until she screamingly submitted to fly the plane into a building remember that one?" Joked Churchill. "Tweezers… tweezed into submission."

Hopefully, this joker of a professor will be terminated and CU's canker sore will be healed! To me, he showed his true colors, when he started joking about the death of these people.

Are Americans Too Friendly to be believed?

Reading Byrd Droppings 'More Flies With Honey', she suggested we read all about this over at Betsy's Page, which I could not turn down. I have always been taught that you can get more flies with honey than you can vinegar.

Seems Betsy came upon an article where an English journalist is in America. And, he cannot believe how friendly everyone is. In fact, when reading the column he wrote, 'Supposing....Americans are the nicest people on earth', I envisioned this smirky little guy, making fun of us Americans.

It seemed to me that even small talk was offensive to Charlie Brooker, when the people were nice. After all, he was not used to people offering to help him, without requiring anything. But, when they did, he was assured in his own mind that all they were after was a tip. So, he wasn't about to call the guy, who worked for the hotel where he was staying, in order to get the television fixed.

Now it's getting late. I'm in my room, typing this. There's a problem with the TV. But I don't call reception and ask them to send Frank up. We've already built a rapport in the corridor. Now he's my buddy, I'd feel uncomfortable expecting him to do chores for me. So I don't call him. He doesn't fix the TV. He doesn't get the tip. Spin on THAT,Frank!

I, for one, think this guy is stuck on himself, or he is a cheapskate! Or, perhaps he doesn't know how to handle friendliness! I know all British people aren't that way, since I've been friends with one for about 15 years!

Americans Concerned about Duke Rape Case encouraged to contact NC

Michael J. Gaynor, independent columnist at The Post Chronicle, is encouraging those Americans, who are concerned with what has been going on in the Duke Rape case, to contact the Attorney General of NC, the NC Governor, and the Executive Director of the NC state bar.

Stuart Taylor, the top legal commentator, has looked into the case. He says that the prosecutor, Mike Nifong, is a rogue, not the lacrosse players. He feels the players have been wrongly accused.

"Then there is Mike Nifong, the Durham, N.C., district attorney who is prosecuting the case. In addition to the misconduct detailed in my April 29 column, he has shielded his evidence (if any) from public scrutiny while seeking to keep the rape charges hanging over the defendants by delaying any trial until next spring.

"Nifong and a certain Durham police officer should themselves be under criminal investigation, in my view, for what looks like possible intimidation of a disinterested defense witness, a cabbie who had been transporting one defendant at the time of the alleged rape."

Gaynor says that not only should rape cases be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law, but so should those that falsely accuse others of rape, and those that stand to profit from these false accusations.

City takes illegal immigration problem into their own hands

Hazelton, PA has decided it is time to stop illegal immigration into their small town. So, they've decided to revoke the license of any business hiring an illegal and also fine a property owner $1,000 for renting to any illegal immigrant.

The mayor says they are destroying his city. When he took office in 2000, the hispanics represented only 5% of their city's population. Now, they are up to 30%. He says they are lured there by jobs and low rent. But, crime has risen in this small town.

City officials do not know how many of the new arrivals are in the United States illegally, but say they are fueling the drug trade, joining gangs and committing other crimes.

Municipal officials around the nation, frustrated at what they perceive as the federal government's inability to stem illegal immigration, have increasingly taken matters into their own hands.

The cities who are adopting this method are having to pick up the tab for all this. But, they are willing to do whatever it takes to clean up their cities. Seems the government is slowing down rather than going forward in doing something about the illegal traffic coming into our country.

Some Hispanics approve of the measure, saying they are fed up with crime and graffiti. "If I was mayor, I wouldn't let anyone in who had a criminal record," said Rafael Rovira, 69, a naturalized American citizen from the Dominican Republic.

But, then there others, such as Jose Lecuga, who came to the United States illegally in 1982, and received amnesty in 1986, who thinks the Mayor is confusing illegal people with criminals. I think this guy is confusing illegal with legal. He got his amnesty, even though he was illegal, and perhaps has told many people from his country - "Come on over here. There are jobs, and plenty of cheap housing. And, it's cheap living here." Otherwise, how do these people find these particular little towns in America, so far from the borders?

Help for the persecuted Christians

We, in America, have the freedom to worship however we want. But, in many countries, people do not share that freedom. In fact, Christian persecution is growing by the day. More Christians have been martyred for their faith in the past 100 years than all combined in the past 1900 years.

It is to be informed, know how to pray and take action on behalf of today's Persecuted Church around the world. Christians face growing persecution in Indonesia, India, Burma, China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Laos, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Pakistan, UAE, and many other countries. Tragically, in most cases, the persecution of Christians is seldom, if ever, reported by the mainstream media.

The Salem Voice Ministries headed by Pastor Paul Ciniraj Mohamed, the Director, is an organization to reach the gospel to those who are being persecuted. Pastor Mohamed is a former Muslim, and many times, his family has been persecuted since he was saved and called to the ministry over 30 years ago. They are helping Christians were the persecution is the most intense, with one being India which has the second largest population of Muslims in the world.

The Salem Voice Ministries have bought a piece of land to start a Cross Cultural Training and Rehabiliation Center for persecuted Christians in South India. They will teach the Bible and get believers ready for evangelism and missionary work.

Only In America!

Where else but America can a person who has been convicted of a robbery end up suing his intended victims?

Dana Buckman entered the Rochester, NY, AutoZone with a pistol and demanded money. But, he was unprepared for two employees beating him with a pipe and holding him at bay with his own gun. But, when they went inside to call 911, he escaped. He was caught a week later and plead guilty to first degree robbery. He got 18 years, because he was a repeat violent felon.

So now Buckman is suing the employees of AutoZone and the store because he says they "committed assault and battery and intentionally inflicted emotional distress."

This will be a case to watch. Are we not able to defend ourselves? Does a criminal have any rights, when he/she is in the process of a robbery? Stay tuned, and we will see!

Say it again, Will

George Will had a great write up in JWR today about learning English. The summary of his thoughts went like this:

What makes Americans generally welcoming of immigrants, and what makes immigrants generally assimilable, is that this is a creedal nation, one dedicated to certain propositions, not one whose origins and identity are bound up with ethnicity. But if you are to be welcomed to the enjoyment of American liberty, then America has a few expectations of you. One is that you can read the nation's founding documents and laws and can comprehend the political discourse that precedes the casting of ballots.

1. Attorney General Albert Gonzales said, on "This Week", that he is not in favor of prohibiting bilingual ballots.
2. Senate Minority Harry Reid brings up racism when the subject is approached to prune the Voting Rights Act.

If one has to have 'help' in filling out a ballot, cannot understand English to make an intelligent choice, why would they be participating in voting? If they 'love' our country enough to want to come here and work and live, what is wrong with asking them to learn English, so they have a better understanding of our language? This is, after all, mostly an English-speaking nation. But, as of late, it makes you wonder if it's becoming more Mexican than American, as you see all the things that are now being required in spanish.

If we were to go to Mexico or any other nation that has their own language, then we would be expected to learn that language in order to have a life there or work. But, 'only in America' will you find the government bowing down in favor of illegal immigrants' "rights", when, in fact, they don't have any rights, other than to be treated like humans. But, 'only in America' do we give illegals anything they desire, and right now, it's the very things that only American citizens should be afforded. There is no 'right to vote' - it's a privilege, in being a law-abiding citizen of America. So, why the need of a bilingual ballot sheet?

America is truly a 'melting pot'. But, there has to be a common ground for a melting pot to work - thus, learning the English language.

Hence, if someone needs a ballot written in a language other than English, that need proves the person obtained citizenship only because the law was not enforced when he or she sought citizenship. So one reason for ending ballots in languages other than English is that continuing them makes a mockery of the rule of law, including even the prospective McCain-Kennedy law that pro-immigration groups favor.

Give me liberty or give me.......

Patrick Henry! Now, there is a guy I would loved to have met. In his famous speech, “Give me liberty or give me death”, he said, “different men often see the same subject in different lights;”. A truer statement has never been made. You can have the closest friend or partner or even spouse. You may think you know their heart on certain matters. But, until you get down to where the rubber meets the road, you never know. They may agree, but, most of the time, they have an altogether different perspective than you have. But, Patrick Henry was willing to stand up and fight for what he thought was right.

While traveling on the blogosphere today, I ran across a post that mentioned Patrick Henry, and quickly the quote of ‘give me liberty or give me death’ came to mind. So, I went looking for information. I know most of you remember the quote “let your fingers do the walking” from the old yellow page ads. Now, we let our ‘fingers do the walking’ via the keyboard to the Internet to find most anything our mind can come up with.

That aside, Patrick Henry was one for religious freedom. I found a site with an excerpt from the book “Religious Denominations” by Belcher. Seems Patrick Henry, who was a lawyer among other things, heard about three Baptist preachers who were about to stand trial for, of all things, ‘for preaching the gospel of the Son of God”. Just as the indictment against the men was being read, Henry rode up on his horse, went into the Court House and took a seat at the bar. He had rode 60 miles from his home to offer his defense of these religious men. When the prosecutor finished the reading, Henry stood up, received the paper, and began the defense. He spoke in tones that got the attention of all the people in the court room, including the Judge. And, upon finishing his remarkable speech, he concluded with, “What Law Have They Violated?”, to which the Judge said, in a very authorative voice, “Sheriff, discharge those men!”

Patrick Henry was elected as Governor of Virginia in 1776. He was governor for a few years, succeeded by Thomas Jefferson, and then re-elected in 1784. He was governor for a total of three terms. He then moved his family to Leatherwood, a 10,000 acre plantation near the Virginia-North Carolina border.

“Patrick Henry was a strong critic of the constitution proposed in 1787. He was in favor of the strongest possible government for the individual states, and a weak federal government. He was also very critical of the fact that the convention was conducted in secret.”

We need another Patrick Henry, one who is not ashamed to stand up for what he believed in, and be heard, was probably the greatest orator of his time, who believed in rights for the people, and a WEAK federal government! He could probably even out talk and be heard over Senator Kennedy!

Is this America or some banana republic?

I cannot take credit for that question, because it came from a post made by Thomas Sowell over at Jewish World Review. He is writing about 'the biggest scandal' about the Duke University lacrosse players, and possibly a race card being played.

According to Newsweek, the young man at NCCU said that he wanted to see the Duke students prosecuted, "whether it happened or not. It would be justice for things that happened in the past."

I thought that this was America, the place where you could get a fair trial - where you were 'considered innocent until found guilty'. Perhaps not. At least, Prosecutor Nifong is using this incident of the accusation against the lacrosse players to further his career. Why else would he postpone the trial until next year?

It is not hard to explain politically, however. The District Attorney may well owe his recent election victory to having tapped into the kinds of racial resentments expressed by the young man at North Carolina Central University.

Now Mr. Nifong is riding a tiger and cannot safely get off. His bet best may be to let this case drag on until it fizzles out, long after the media have lost interest. His extraordinary postponement of the trial for a year suggests he understands that.

The police have even taken the taxi driver in for questioning about the case - the guy who can substantiate one of the players alibi! How can they stop his testimony, since the surveillance camera at the bank shows the truth?

If nothing else, the harassment can serve as a warning to anybody else who might feel like coming forward with testimony that undermines the prosecution's case.

Is this the way we now do things in America? Or, is this how cases have always been handled? Will these boys get a fair trial? And, if they are found innocent, which the last boy to be accused has attested to, how will they ever get their reputations back? Will the courts reprimand Nifong for his handling of this case? I doubt it!
