Words to the Wise

For those of you who are worrying about what this proposed Health Care bill will do for you, the following is a must read and see:

Being a Senior, although I don't feel like one, I worry what this is going to do to our health care. The President keeps saying we can keep what we have. But what does that really mean, considering the elderly are mostly on Medicare. We have a second insurance with my husband's company from which he is retired that takes up the slack. But how long will that last, if the proposed government insurance plan is pushed on us in 1 to 5 years? One thing I heard was that, no matter what we have now, we will have to 'change' in 1 to 5 years. In other words, as the President said once, 'just words'?

We have seen so many things he promised for 'change' go amiss. In other words, his words were for pomp and circumstance. Those well-chosen words got him elected and now he is doing what he set out to do. And he has chosen those to fill positions that he feels most closely associate with his beliefs and the end result he is after. The end result of this plan is going to bankrupt America and kill off the elderly, the disabled and the young.

Those of us who are truly concerned with the outcome are being viewed as not really knowing the 'truth' about this bill. But, who really knows the truth, considering the 1,000 plus pages haven't even been read by Congress? What is the rush to get this bill passed? What are they hiding? I bet you there is plenty hidden in among those many pages that would 'gag a maggot'. In other words, there is much the President and those siding with him do not want us to know. But it is slowly seeping out. I pray more and more is revealed and the people, as a whole, rise up in protest. We are slowly being drained of our freedom even to live on this God-given earth!

There is a verse in scripture that warns us to be aware of things that will begin to happen in the end times. We will have trials and tribulation here on this earth and it is quickly coming to us, regardless of what the politicians say. But there is an end in sight for those who know the Lord personally.

There is no need to worry yourself into a heart attack because of what the President is trying to do. We can pray against the harmful effects of this bill, trust the Lord to take care of us, and hang on. His Word says 'I have not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread'. (Psalm 37:25) So lets join together in prayer against this bill and believe the Word of God that says he will 'hasten my word to perform it'. There is strength in numbers and power in His Word!

Dementia in Washington DC

Has most of the government in Washington lost their minds? They are trying to pass a stimulus bill that isn't a stimulus at all. It will be a bill of around a trillion dollars hung like an albatross around the necks of our children and grandchildren and their children! And, to top that, there is more pork in there than there is stimulus!

Senator Lindsey Graham just said, in an interview on Fox News with Greta, he would apologize to the entire United States for having an irresponsible Congress, if they passed this bill. He said it is irresponsible, that there is no discussion going on between both sides. He said the President is 'on leave' - he should getting the Republicans and Senators together to discuss the bill. He said the goal is to create jobs, not to grow the government in the fourth or fifth year of spending. He also said that goal is not to reward ACORN; the goal is to jumpstart the economy. But, that isn't happening with this bill. And, on top of that, Senator Harry Reid said they would 'burn the midnight oil' in order to discuss this bill. Yet, he closed up shop before 9PM!

I recall a movie called Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, starring James Stewart. He was a naive man that was appointed to fill a vacancy in the US Senate. His plans collided with political correction. This should be a required film for every politician on Capitol Hill to see! Perhaps it could clear a few minds and make some honest politicians!

If this bill passes, I think we all need to rid Washington of it's dementia during the next election!

Government, take back the money!

You would think that a company like AIG, which was about to go under, would have the common sense to watch their spending after the government agreed to bail them out with $85 billion to keep them from collapsing. Apparently, the executives in that company see it as a 'give away', and they don't have to protect what they have.

AIG executives spent $500,000 at an exclusive resort just days after the U.S. government agreed to spend $85 billion to protect the giant insurer from collapse, according to Rep. Henry Waxman, the California Democrat who chairs the House Oversight Committee.

This is going on while the average taxpayer is losing money on their 401K's, losing their jobs and their homes. Apparently, the average Joe doesn't matter to these executives, just as long as they continue their high living! They need to get a grip! This nation is in a crisis!

Last month, the taxpayers bought out AIG in an $85 billion bailout. This was a direct result of the mistakes made by Mr. Cassano. Yet even today, he remains on the company payroll, receiving $1 million a month.

The federal bailout occurred on September 16. Less than one week later, AIG held a week-long retreat for company executives at the exclusive St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach, California. A photograph of the resort is on display.

Rooms at this resort can cost over $1,000 per night. Invoices provided to the Committee show that AIG paid the resort over $440,000, including nearly $200,000 for rooms, over $150,000 for meals, and $23,000 in spa charges.

Average Americans are suffering economically. They are losing their jobs, their homes, and their health insurance. Yet less than one week after the taxpayers rescued AIG, company executives could be found wining and dining at one of the most exclusive resorts in the ation.

If the government buys out a company, the executives need to be removed and put in some reliable people in their place. When a company like AIG just blatantly refuses to buckle down and reduce unnecessary expenditures (of which these were), they need to just collapse! With the same people in the driver's seat, they will never be a truly responsible company.

Watch out for porn

Those of us with Christian web sites try our best to keep them clean for adults and children alike. We link to sites that we would not mind our families surfing in. But as good as we are to check out the sites, that isn't always good enough.

Case in point: I got a note from a parent tonight who was surfing for a good teen site for her daughter. She came upon my page on my web site. She liked what she saw, but in checking out the links to magazines, she found nudity and adult content where there should have been a clean teen magazine. She was quick to alert me and I promptly removed the offending link.

When a Christian buys a domain and then fails to keep it up, the domain is then for sale again. The porn people are right there, waiting to snatch all those sites up. The host for my domain is a Christian. Every time someone fails to retain their domains, he buys them up just to keep as much porn off the Internet as possible. And, I certainly appreciate his effort to do so.

If you have a Christian web site, by all means keep check on the links quite often. What was okay today may not be okay tomorrow. My site is proof of that!! But, for the moment, all is well there.

Protecting the innocent

I received an email today from a visitor to my web site. The person had gone to my April page of facts and clicked on the April Fool's link I had there. Low and behold, the link now went to a porn site! They quickly closed the page and alerted me.

I have recently installed a great program on my laptop that keeps porn and other sites with questionable material out of the sight of the young, or anyone who happens to be using my laptop. So, when I clicked on that questionable page from my laptop, a page from Blue Coat's K9 Web Protection popped up, letting me know that the page was unavailable. Although it can be set to be viewed through the program, it has to be done by the administrator and a password. So, there is no way anyone accessing my computer can get to questionable places.

The questionable link was quickly fixed the moment I read the email. So, it is safe to view the link put in it's place. Also, the K9 Web Protection is a free service. I am sure there may be better ones out there, but, for now, this is good enough for me. It works! You can set your own preferences for each site that may pop up as questionable when you first go to them. The two that popped us for us was MySpace and YouTube which we go to frequently. But, these are not considered porn, but parents of young children may not want them to be able to view them.

Apologize - ALONE!

I am with Neil Cavuto on this one! When a person gets in trouble, they usually do it alone. This is what happened with some recent politicians. Yet, when they are caught, they go before the microphones with wife in hand, for ‘support’. To me, it’s only humiliation in the highest form!

The wife and family are the ones that need support for what they have already been put through. But, these men seem to be so needy they bring their wives to stand with them on the podium. I could see the humiliation written all over New York Governor Spitzer’s wife today as he announced his recognition. What wife would not be humiliated when she finds out her husband has been using prostitutes! I, for one, would not be a wife standing on stage were my husband to be found using prostitutes! He would have to bear the burden by himself; after all, he got himself into the mess!

Going back to the last few men who have been caught at something, whether it was the prostitution rings or the homosexual scandals, they have brought their wives out for support. When I see a woman standing on stage, I wonder if she’s there for his support or for her children. Today, Governor Spitzer’s wife looked as though she wanted to be every where but with him. But she was made to endure his long speech of how sorry he was – probably sorry he had been caught. But, pictures sometimes speak louder than words. And, then, the footage showing them arriving back at their apartment only 15 minutes later, she jumped out of the SUV and made it for the door very hastily. That is not the way of a loving wife – one that actually supports her husband. Or, it is not my way!

What does MSNBC owe Jackson or Sharpton?

David Gregory, of MSNBC, spent 15 minutes, of the Imus In The Morning time slot today,discussing Imus with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Gregory brought up Jackson's use of 'hymie town', of which he had apologized. But, Jackson said there was no comparison of that, of which he apologized 24 years ago (after all Gregory didn't hear it himself) and Imus' statement on television to thousands. Well, Imus apologized, but it's not good enough for Jackson?

Jackson: "It’s not just Imus making a statement but when people like you appear on the show and Tim Russert and, and, and McCain and Harold Ford, you give, you’ve given credence to the show."

At that point, a chastened Gregory seemed to concede the point. He noted, "Reverend, it is a fair point and I take your point about my appearances on Imus and those of my colleagues as something that I and others have to think about as well." Anyone remember a time when the combative White House correspondent conceded a point to Press Secretary Tony Snow?

Jackson went on to question Gregory about how many black people are employed to be a host during the periods of 3 - 12. Gregory could only name one woman.

Jackson: "The time when MSNBC shows come on, when the Wolf Blitzers come on, when the, uh, the Chris Matthews come on, I'm saying there is too much cultural isolation in the media. It should be more diverse and that's my basic appeal. We meet with officials today. We gonna talk about the employment categories, talk about hosts, and producers and content and supply diversity, All these things matter. You look at the, the, the weekly shows, the, the ‘Face the Nation,’ the ‘Meet the Press’ shows."

Gregory also questioned Sharpton about the Tawana Brawley case, of which he has questioned him on a previous show.

Gregory asked Sharpton innocuous questions such as "Why do you think NBC made the decision?" And he certainly didn’t make the point that, according to the Drudge Report, Don Imus asserted on his radio show on the same day: When will Al Sharpton apologize to the members of the Duke lacrosse team?

Again, what does MSNBC owe Jackson or Sharpton?

Lost in the 'forest'

If you are a regular around here, you’ll notice I’ve once again taken a hiatus on my blog. But, it wasn’t from wanting to, but I’ve just gotten mired down in muck – not the mud around here, but the mud coming through the news and some personal goings on. It is hard to think with your mind so cluttered with others’ thoughts.

Seems every time an election campaign starts, the mud starts flying. It took one word from Ann Coulter to get the liberals agitated. And the Republicans themselves have come unglued because of her choice of words in her speech.

Sister Tooljah has a post on liberal bloggers who have gotten away with using the very same explosive word as Ann Coulter. Wil’s Corner has googled the word and check out what he has found.

Is there a double standard for conservatives and liberals? I would think so, especially as long as we have a Republican named George Bush in the White House. Or, perhaps it is any Republican in any capacity in the government. Let a Democrat say anything negative and you never hear another Democrat come out against it. Let a Republican come out with the same thing, and you would think that they have just declared war on the universe, to hear the outcry from the lefties.

I am so tired of political correctness. I wish we could get back to honesty – not just for our kids but for all the adults who haven’t ‘grown up’ yet. Why isn’t there an outcry against all the wrongs in the world – not just a select few? We can look around and see wrongs that will never be righted. Why can’t those be worked on rather than trying to demoralize individuals? There are many on both sides that I have a problem with, but to go after the jugular is not my style. As the old saying goes, ‘it will all come out in the wash’. You need only watch their actions or lack thereof, and listen to their speeches, and you’ll soon decide who you should support in the upcoming elections. There are many Blogs out there that will keep you abreast of things these people have said or done in the past that does not coincide with what they are saying/doing now. You will soon learn who is being ‘politically correct’ for the time being, or being honest consistently. As with the colors of black and white, it’s just as easy to see through the muddy waters of a politician.

Convicted Border Agents headed to prison in 24 hours

Two men, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, border agents, were just doing their job in trying to apprehend an illegal alien drug smuggler. In 24 hours, these two men will be leaving their families for 11 or 12 years in Federal Prison.

The only official word from the White House came through Spokesman Tony Snow last week who gave no indication that the President is considering taking action.

There is so much at stake here, first for these two agents and their families who have already paid such a high price, and secondly for our nation.

In the minds of millions of Americans, if these men go to jail this President will have sided with an illegal alien drug smuggler instead of the men and women who are literally standing on the wall protecting our nation's borders.

Nifong removed from Duke case

A news conference was just held in Raleigh, NC by Attorney General Roy Cooper. AG Cooper said District Attorney Nifong was relieved from the Duke lacrosse case and his office would be taking over the case.

Facing ethics charges that could lead to his disbarment, beleaguered district attorney Mike Nifong had asked that a special prosecutor take over the case.

The AG could not say that the case would be resolved quickly or that the case would be dropped against the players. But, he did say that every piece of evidence would be looked at closely.

My feelings are that Nifong should be prosecuted for withholding information that would have cleared the boys even before they were indicted. But, evidentally, from all the information coming across the air waves, he was more interested in getting three more years in for retirement rather than dismissing a case that never should have happened. Perhaps he will have time to think while the Attorney General's office is pursuing him for the wrongs he has done handling this case. He has surely made three boys and their families suffer unnecessarily.

Scrushy, Siegelman found guilty on federal conspiracy , bribery charges

A guilty verdict was reached today in Montgomery, Alabama, in the federal cases against both former Alabama Governor Don Siegleman and former HealthSouth Corp. CEO, Richard Scrushy.

Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman has been found guilty on 10 of 34 counts in a federal corruption trial, including bribery, conspiracy and eight counts of mail fraud. Siegelman's conspiracy conviction did not include a guilty verdict under the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, statute.

Former HealthSouth Corp. CEO Richard Scrushy, accused of buying his way onto the state's Certificate of Need review board, was convicted on all six charges he faced, including bribery, conspiracy and four counts of mail fraud.

The verdict was handed down today, after 11 days of deliberation, and 32 days of testimony.

Andy Bremmer, spokesman for HealthSouth Corp, had only a short comment to make. He said that HealthSouth Corp new management had worked the past 3 years to put the past behind them. He said Scrushy was part of the past and today's verdict had no impact on the future of the company. Scrushy has been acquitted in Birmingham 1 year ago on 36 criminal charges from a 6-year corporate fraud at HealthSouth.

Americans Concerned about Duke Rape Case encouraged to contact NC

Michael J. Gaynor, independent columnist at The Post Chronicle, is encouraging those Americans, who are concerned with what has been going on in the Duke Rape case, to contact the Attorney General of NC, the NC Governor, and the Executive Director of the NC state bar.

Stuart Taylor, the top legal commentator, has looked into the case. He says that the prosecutor, Mike Nifong, is a rogue, not the lacrosse players. He feels the players have been wrongly accused.

"Then there is Mike Nifong, the Durham, N.C., district attorney who is prosecuting the case. In addition to the misconduct detailed in my April 29 column, he has shielded his evidence (if any) from public scrutiny while seeking to keep the rape charges hanging over the defendants by delaying any trial until next spring.

"Nifong and a certain Durham police officer should themselves be under criminal investigation, in my view, for what looks like possible intimidation of a disinterested defense witness, a cabbie who had been transporting one defendant at the time of the alleged rape."

Gaynor says that not only should rape cases be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law, but so should those that falsely accuse others of rape, and those that stand to profit from these false accusations.

Billions feared stolen from hurricane relief

Millions of dollars have been paid by the government in bogus payments to supposed 'hurricane victims'. The money has gone for such things as football tickets, vacations, and a divorce lawyer.

Congressional investigators have found that prisoners, a supposed victim who used a cemetery for a home address and a person who spent 70 days at a Hawaiian hotel all were able to wrongly get taxpayer help.

It is believed that 16% of the money spent in the aftermath of Katrina and Rita was unwarranted. Testimony will be given today at the hearings of the House of Representatives Homeland Security subcommittee on investigations.

An undercover agent was given money, even after being found he did not live at the address he had provided. There have been all kinds of misuse of the money, including paying people twice, both for being housed in a hotel while being given money for rental assistance. And, on top of that, FEMA cannot establish that 750 debit cards actually went to the Katrina victims.
