In God We Trust
Phil Hartman, over at Poster Child 4 Grace, posted a question in his post of May 29th. The question was “When was the last time you sang or heard The Star Spangled Banner? And, “When was the last time you sang or heard verses 2, 3, and 4 of The Star Spangled Banner”.
Phil had posted the 4th verse to The Star Spangled Banner on his site.
Here it is:Verse 4 of The Star-Spangled Banner
O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
I truthfully do not ever remember singing that last stanza, but, I am sure we did in the ninth grade. But, just reading it on Phil’s site today, and reading what Francis Scott Key wrote back in 1814 made the quotation “In God We Trust” much more meaningful. Seems this phrase has really offended many who want to remove God or anything religious from society. Oh, it’s okay to hide it from others, say it in private, share it in churches or home, but, heaven forbid, that we use that phrase where others might be offended, as in public, and especially on our money! After all, it is handled by those that don’t believe in a God.
Psalms 4:5 says “put your trust in the Lord”. This means having all confidence in Him. It means letting God direct your paths, when you really want to direct them yourself. It means trusting God completely, when you feel He isn’t paying any attention to your needs or your wants. In other words, it means letting God arrange your priorities, rather than you making decisions without consulting Him, who is ‘able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us’. (Ephesians 3:20).

I'm glad you liked my post! And.. I agree that "In God We Trust" takes on new meaning... a real trust in Providence.
