More Than A Conqueror

I was out in the Blogosphere this morning, reading various posts. And, I ran across Henry’s post at Henry’s Musings – “You Do Not Have To Sin”. And, I certainly agree; it’s a choice we each make each morning when we arise – to sin or not to sin, to follow after God, or give into satan.

So many believe that we are incapable of being sinless. But, what does that do to the Power of the Holy Spirit that is living in the Christian? Does it nullify and make void what Jesus did for us on the cross? Scripture says that he ‘died for our sins,’ (I Corinthians 15:3). I hear so many saying, “I am just a sinner, saved by Grace.” – Yes, we are saved by Grace, but the Bible tells us that ‘if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; all things are passed away, behold, all things are become new.’ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

I believe the Word of God is truth, and we have to place our faith in the Word. The devil will trap us into unbelief every time he gets a chance. But, we give him the chance, when we stray from what the Word actually says, and what society has taught us it means.

Genesis 1:27 tells us that God made us in his own image. And, on the sixth day, he saw everything he made, and said it was GOOD. Man fell in the Garden of Eden – trickery of the devil. And, he’s been out to get man ever since. But, when we come to God and repent, and the Holy Spirit is residing within us, then we have the Power to overcome all the obstacles that the devil sends our way. It is just that we let our weaknesses take over, rather than depending on the Holy Spirit to take over and deliver us ‘from evil’. We are to resist the devil and he will flee. But, more times than not, we fall into his trap, temptation takes over, and sin abounds.

I’ll leave you with one scripture that just popped into my head, while I was writing this.

1 Thessalonians 5:18, "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

When the devil tempts you, ‘give thanks’ to God that he has equipped you with the power to overcome!

When you feel things aren’t going the way ‘you planned’, and you feel you are going to fall, ‘give thanks’ to God that He is able to ‘deliver the godly out of temptations’.

When you feel you can’t make it alone; know that He is always present and we can come boldly to the throne of grace and receive mercy, and find grace in that time of need! He will never leave you nor forsake you; HE can keep you from sinning! You are a new creature in Christ!

Romans 8:37, "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."

Amen! But many like their 'crutch'. :)

I'm off to read Henry's article, but wanted to say "amen" to you, too. I dealt with this a bit on my blog this week in response to another blogger's perspective, because I really believe that Paul was right when he told us that we need to consider ourselves dead to sin!

God bless,
steve :)

Steve, seems you, Henry and I are all three on the same plane as to being dead to sin.

You've heard the old saying 'have my cake and eat it too'... that's how some are with sin. Repent, sin, repent, sin - it's an every day occurrence, when they should be looking to the power of the Holy Spirit to keep them from sinning, period!
