This is the mystery that tops all mysteries. I have read. It holds within itself a mystery, a murder, a love story and a hint of spiritual awareness.

A hand-written note on a pad on the desk of Horace Langley, the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute begins the hunt for the true killer of Langley. It appeared to be something from the missing pages of John Wilkes Booth’s personal diary about the assassination of Lincoln. The killer stole the page, but the pad produced a copy of the handwriting and the words were later revealed and interpreted as to their meaning. So now we are off on a trip to find the man/woman responsible for this unnecessary death.

Vinnie Archmont happened to be in Langley’s office only minutes before he was killed. The police discovered Langley had given her the secret code to the back door, and it was decided that she was indeed the killer. She was there to persuade Langley to let her English benefactor see the pages, and he refused. This was the motive that the prosecution was using to indict her for the murder.

Archmont engaged J. D. Blackstone as her lawyer. As the story unfolds, we find that nothing that happens in the story is by chance. In my mind, I was jumping from one person to another, trying to piece together the pieces of the puzzle in this murder.

Blackstone had two people to decipher the meaning of the words in the note. It was believed this held the key to what was in the missing pages of the diary, but it led to information about the Freemasons. Was this a crime by one of them in order to cover up the secret held within?

As the story unfolds, Blackstone wants to believe his client is innocent, but has doubts about her relationship with her benefactor, Lord Dee. He is in contact with him throughout the investigation. He comes upon a bit of information that makes him realize what Lord Dee was after, and who really killed Langley, but would not reveal it to his client or others helping him. This was the clincher in the trial.

All through the story, it is thought that Blackstone knows who God is, but does he know him? There are hints of Christianity in the story and I would have loved to hear more. But it is such a well-written mystery/murder that I would recommend the book to any mystery lover. In fact, I will probably be reading it again soon!

April 1st Worm for your computer

Today is April Fool's Day, the day that the Conficker virus was supposed to hit the computers of those of us who were unprotected. There was no way of knowing whether you were infected or not until today.

We were instructed last night through the television to try and go to www.microsoft.com, www.symantec.com or other sites like those. If you could get to them, then you were protected. But, if you could not get there, it has locked you out and you are infected. The thing to do then was go to microsoft.com and get the patch through another person's computer, put it on a disk, and install it on your computer. Thank goodness my laptop is safe.

The True Church

So many people wrongly think that the ‘church’ is a building where you attend to learn about Christ and hear sermons. Actually, we, the Christians, are the ‘church’ spoken about in the Bible.

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Strong’s Concordance has the following description for church:

In other words, the building is where the ‘church’ (the Christians) meets in order to worship God together.

The apostles and prophets are the foundation for the ‘church’, with Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone:

Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

We, the born-again Christians are the stones that build up the ‘church’.

1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

As I read this book, I was unsure what was going to happen between the little girl and her imaginary friend. At times, I felt as though he was definitely real!

When Jane was just a child, Michael, her imaginary friend, would walk her to school every morning. And he would always take her to the St. Regis for their dessert and then head to Tiffany’s. But, when Jane turned nine, he told her this was the time he left every child with whom he played their imaginary friend. It upset Jane. All her young life, she missed Michael. But, she got busy in life, working for her Mother. She also wrote a play called “Thank Heaven” which was all about her life with her imaginary friend.

During this time, she began to get glimpses of a man who looked like Michael. He seemed to be everywhere she was. She just couldn’t shake the feeling he was following her. So one day, she got up the nerve to go over to him and ask him if he was indeed Michael. Michael knew that this wasn’t supposed to happen. Children just didn’t remember their childhood imaginary friends. But, Jane did, and he didn’t know why.

Michael and Jane began to see one another after work or before her work. Michael, being an imaginary friend (or perhaps an angel) never worked. He was always there for Jane and found himself getting more involved than he could ever imagine. This thrilled Jane because she had fallen in love, but she often wondered if Michael would leave her like he did that day when she was nine years old.

What happens next is absolutely a miracle. But I will not ruin the story by telling you the ending. It is definitely worth your time to read this great story!

They'll be regulating God next!

A ruling by the EPA in Iowa says 'farm dust open to regulation'. Please tell me how a farmer can delegate where the dust from his machinery goes! This is one of the most ridiculous that the government has ever come up with! The farmer has no way of keeping the wind from blowing the dust his machinery causes from going over to his neighbor's ground. This is like saying he can regulate the wind, in other words, regulate what God has set on earth!

But farmers insist the regulation will affect their operations and eventually their bottom lines. And they said unlike fixing a bus, they have few options for limiting dust from their fields and roads.

Roger Zylstra, a director with the Iowa Corngrowers Association, said if left alone, farmers can compete worldwide. But regulation could impede their success.

He said there seems to be a disconnect between farmers and policymakers.

"Many of the people that are making the rules, it feels like they really don't know what (farming) issues are," said Zylstra, a Lynnville resident who has worked on a farm for 35 years.

The government says its goal is to protect the public and they are calling it health-based. I'm calling it absurd! It will eventually put the farmers out of business in the US!

Paul Harvey dead at the age of 90

Well known radio commentator Paul Harvey died this week at the age of 90. I always loved to hear him speak. He had a voice that you could never mistake for another. I'll always remember his signing off each day with "Paul Harvey, Good Day". He is a personality that will certainly be missed in the news world and among his many followers.

Harvey's wife, Angel, who produced his radio programs, died in 2008. Angel Harvey is credited with creating his popular radio feature "The Rest of the Story."

The Truth Be Told

In a world where we have so many hardships, the last thing we need is someone telling us just how bad we are. We need someone lifting us up, letting us know that things can be made better. Change can be a good thing, but only if the truth is told and we learn how to rectify the mistakes that have been made over the years. We can't blame everything that has happened on one person, nor can we depend on one person to get us out of the mess we are in. But one person in charge can surely do enough damage to a person's psyche to make one go into depression! Is this the agenda of the Obama administration?

Oliver North tells us that if 'the truth be told', Obama is the most charismatic and articulate speaker alive in America today. Articulate he is, but not with the truth. In his speech to the joint Congress other night, he was not truthful in most of his words. Oliver North has given us facts (the whole truth and nothing but the truth) on many things that President Obama misrepresented. People who aren't listening with their mind and only with their hearts would not have caught the wrongs he has given them in this carefully planned speech. North says the speech writer, "27-year-old Jon Favreau, his eloquent speechwriter, just doesn't know the facts or recognize "where have I heard those words before?" Apparently he's too young to know the difference in the truth or a stretch of the imagination. If it looks good on paper then perhaps it's the truth. Apparently even Obama didn't know the truth, either, or perhaps he's trying to trick the mind of the Americans.

"So I ask this Congress to join me in doing whatever proves necessary." Those unfamiliar with history may not recall that this was exactly what Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler asked their legislatures to do in creating National Socialism. In the midst of rising unemployment and economic crisis, both men asked for and got legislation to do what was "necessary" and promised new private-sector jobs would be generated by government-funded programs, new tax laws and novel "lending rules." It worked. Private companies did hire workers to build rail systems and highways. They also invigorated auto industries and, in Germany, the most technologically advanced aircraft in the world. The rest is history we all know.

Are we, as Americans to blind to see where this government is going to lead us? Do we actually believe a President who speaks eloquently with half-truths can lead this country to where it needs to go? Hasn't he proved in just one month how ill-equipped he is to be the leader of a "free" country? Just how long will we be free?

Truth be told, this isn't an "economic recovery budget." It is a Lyndon Johnson plan. In the midst of "crisis," a controversial war and an economic slowdown, we're being told that we need a massive expansion of the federal government, higher taxes, more debt for our children, and defense cuts that are tantamount to unilateral disarmament.

If you read the entire article written by Oliver North, I believe you will come away with the same thoughts I did. We are in a heap of trouble with a President who reads his speeches eloquently from a teleprompter while not being well versed on the truth of history. History is being re-written the way the liberals want the American people to see it.

Made in America

So many of our job opportunities have gone overseas due to what it costs a business to survive here in America. And this has definitely driven up the number of people now out of work and it’s growing every day. And many American businesses’ even out source their jobs to people overseas. This happened to my son’s previous job he had held for 18 years.

Dementia in Washington DC

Has most of the government in Washington lost their minds? They are trying to pass a stimulus bill that isn't a stimulus at all. It will be a bill of around a trillion dollars hung like an albatross around the necks of our children and grandchildren and their children! And, to top that, there is more pork in there than there is stimulus!

Senator Lindsey Graham just said, in an interview on Fox News with Greta, he would apologize to the entire United States for having an irresponsible Congress, if they passed this bill. He said it is irresponsible, that there is no discussion going on between both sides. He said the President is 'on leave' - he should getting the Republicans and Senators together to discuss the bill. He said the goal is to create jobs, not to grow the government in the fourth or fifth year of spending. He also said that goal is not to reward ACORN; the goal is to jumpstart the economy. But, that isn't happening with this bill. And, on top of that, Senator Harry Reid said they would 'burn the midnight oil' in order to discuss this bill. Yet, he closed up shop before 9PM!

I recall a movie called Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, starring James Stewart. He was a naive man that was appointed to fill a vacancy in the US Senate. His plans collided with political correction. This should be a required film for every politician on Capitol Hill to see! Perhaps it could clear a few minds and make some honest politicians!

If this bill passes, I think we all need to rid Washington of it's dementia during the next election!

Easter Celebrations

Each of us can reach back into our childhood memories and find an outstanding Easter. Most of us woke up to a beautifully filled Easter basket, full of colorful eggs, lots of delicious candy, and a toy or two.

We have always tried to make Easter memorable for our children and grandchildren. We took on the tradition of putting money in a few plastic eggs and hiding them in inconspicuous places along with all the other real eggs that had been dyed. Hopefully, each child would find one of the plastic eggs. When they found one, they would scream at the top of their voice.

One Day Closer

We all understand that life here on earth isn't forever. But do we all understand that each day we live draws us one day closer to our eternal destination?

As a sinner, we did not know God or understand His Word that commands us to obey his commandments. Many know the commandments written in the Bible and perhaps live by some of them. But our secular nature does not tell us we need to know God as our personal Savior. We think we can do whatever we want and 'be good', and things are okay. But that isn't how it works in the spiritual world.

When we are truly saved by grace through faith in His Word (his free gift to all who will listen), the Holy Spirit will enlighten us in the Word. If we pay attention, then we will learn that we need to obey God's Word in all facets of our lives. He says, after salvation, we become a 'new creature' in Christ; old things are passed away and all things become new.(II Corinthians 5:17).

We need to keep our minds stayed on God each day, knowing today is one day closer to our destiny. Hopefully, reading this, if you have not made your commitment to Christ, you will begin to think about the end of your life. Will you come to that day without the assurance that you will be spending eternity with Him? Have you truly been washed in the blood of Christ, the one who gave His life for you?

John’s Quest – Book Review

John’s Quest is a Christian fiction romance that brings together a Christian woman who has never married and an agnostic. There are strong attractions, but the woman resists because she knows it is not good to be married to an unbeliever.

Her younger sister who has done everything but live the Christian life presents her with a nephew who is blind. She just drops him off for an uncertain amount of time in order to take off with the latest boyfriend. Her parents live a long way off, so she has the problem of taking care of a blind boy while trying to work and take care of her home. She really has no time to work on a relationship she thinks may never go anywhere. But she does pray daily for the salvation of this agnostic.

The agnostic is a teacher and he has a heart for blind children. So, he took on the responsibility of tutoring her nephew to get him up to par in his schoolwork. The arrangement is for him to come to her house to tutor. But, after awhile, this seems to be too much for both of them, considering he hasn’t turned to God and she doesn’t want to get any closer to him. But, he does finally accept God, and they soon get back together.

This book is a great read and wonderful love story. I could have read it in one sitting. One just feels as though they are living right there, witnessing what is going on in these people’s lives. And that is the essence of a successful novel.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is the center of our faith. Without forgiveness we could not have salvation by faith. The Bible in Matthew 6:15 tells us that we have to forgive others or the Lord will not forgive us.

The Word tells us that when we were saved, He forgave us all our past sins and remembered them no more. We are commanded in Ephesians 4:32 to forgive others as God has forgiven us.

Even though we are saved, sometimes un-forgiveness to others deals us misery. We feel guilty because we know we must forgive others but SELF keeps us from doing so. It puts us under bondage and we keep living in the past. And this can bring on illnesses and spiritual sickness which makes us drift away from God.

God is a forgiving God and the root of His love is forgiveness. The way we view forgiveness always has an impact on our relationship with him. If we want to live a healthy spiritual life, then we must learn to forgive.

To whom it may concern

When we are writing to a business or organization and do not know the correct person to address, we usually put ‘to whom it may concern’. We believe it will finally reach the person who will address what we need to know or what we want done in our situation.

And, when a Christian prays, he/she usually addressed GOD, the one in whom he/she places their trust. To address God in our prayers as ‘to whom it may concern’ would be disrespectful, not to say that our prayer would more than likely bounce off the walls!

President Obama, in wanting to reach everyone through the nation, picked a woman, a gay, and a Baptist preacher to speak at the inaugural events. Episcopalian Bishop V. Gene Robinson was to speak at the event in front of the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday. He said all the inaugural speeches he had read were too ‘specifically aggressive and Christian’. He announced his prayer would not be a Christian prayer and he would not be quoting scripture.

Robinson is ruminating on alternatives such as praying to "the God of our many understandings," a language he said he learned during his stint in alcohol rehab.

Perhaps in the future, taking Christian pity on the poor Michael Newdows of the world, presidential prayers can be re-addressed: To Whom It May Concern.

Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in California, will be giving the Invocation at the Inauguration for Barack Obama tomorrow. But he has gotten much criticism, as has Obama for his selection to speak. I can’t understand why, if it’s okay to ask a gay man to speak at the Lincoln Memorial, why not an evangelical for the Inauguration? Hopefully, Rick Warren will not give a ‘sterilized’ speech and never invoke the name of Jesus. After all, HE is the one to whom we all should be looking for the saving of our nation that is definitely in disarray.

Free at last!

I have felt all along that the two border patrol agents who were sent to prison for doing their job should never have been punished. I believe the prosecutor in the case was to eager to prosecute and get another 'star in his cap'. When people are hired to do a job, they should not be punished for doing just that. Now these men have been separated from their families for two years.

Today, President Bush commuted their sentences! This means their stay in jail will be shortened and Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean will soon be home with their families. Thank you, President Bush, for deciding to commute their sentence and get them back home with their families where they have belonged all along!

Great books to read

Last year I reviewed a trilogy of books by author John Aubrey Anderson. Those books captivated me like none have since the Left Behind Series. But these were completely different kind of books. They were about family life in Mississippi when children were innocent and it didn't matter who your friends were. You accepted them as your friend whether others approved or not. Family life seemed to take back seat to the excitement these children had when they were together. The children grow into adults but their memories of their childhood stay with them. And some of the things that happened as they grew up became part of their lives.

The books are called The Black or White Chronicles. The story is set around a young white girl who is head strong and a young black boy whom his father tells to 'watch out for her...like a man'. And he does his best to do that. The family is Christian but the young girl is not. But as the story unravels, the young boy loses his life. The lives of the children are altered the day death strikes that family and their lives are never the same. But the young girl find the Lord. And you will find the gospel throughout these wonderful books.

I believe you will enjoy reading these books. And I think you will be as drawn to reading them like I was. I could have read each book in one night, but I savored each moment, as though I was right there when it happened. I could picture every scene in my mind's eye! In the last days

The Bible talks about what will go on in the last days.

• 2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

• 2 Timothy 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

• 2 Timothy 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

• 2 Timothy 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

• 2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

• 2 Timothy 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

• 2 Timothy 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

I don’t know about you, but I feel we are definitely in the last days. Too many things have taken place and so many people are denying Christ. So many have never even been taught about the Lord or ever been in a church. And I came across one thing that has happened here in the United States to make me more aware of the problem.

In Colorado they passed a law which could cause it to be a crime to publish the Bible.

SB200, a Colorado state bill recently signed into law, http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=66829 criminalizes the Bible. Section 8 of the bill entitled "Publishing of discriminative matter forbidden" makes publishing the Bible illegal because it contains anti-homosexual passages. This is part of a larger effort to criminalize the expression of certain opinions and beliefs.

Not only are we, as Christians being told that God should be taken out of everything in public and we should keep it in the church. But, some day there might be a reason that a case is made that the Bible should no longer be published because it teaches derogatory things, according to some.

In the scriptures above, I see things leading right up to this situation –

• Lovers of their own selves

• Without natural affection

• Lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God

We no longer have the pleasure of coasting along in life believing that things will continue to be the way they have always been. The circumstances today show us this is no longer true. Things have changed, and they aren’t getting better. They are only getting worse. Just as Christ was persecuted when he was on earth, so are we Christians going to go through trials and tribulations before he returns. Many people have given their lives because they chose to follow Him and would not back down. Missionaries have learned that they are prey for those that hate anything with God attached, or perhaps ‘their god’. They are constantly attacked, ran out of the country to which they are missionaries, or perhaps even killed. The only thing they have done wrong is to serve God.

Many calamities have happened in the last few years. Tsunami’s killing thousands, earthquakes where you would not think there would be one, hurricanes killing so many people, people turning against their own families (kids against their parents, parents against their kids) – so much in the Bible is coming to pass. I believe it’s time to look up for “your redemption draweth nigh”. (Luke 21:28)

Teen Challenge

A group of young men from Teen Challenge came to our church Sunday morning. They ministered with human videos on getting out of bondage from Satan and the Hope we have in Christ. These young men serve a year in Teen Challenge where they learn about Christ and how he can work in their lives if they surrender to him.

Two of the young men gave their testimonies on what they came out of and how Teen Challenge has helped to change their lives. Two of the young men gave their testimony. We were greatly moved by the things they said. One young man said he was 21. He had lost his Dad at the age of 10 from cancer and had a mother who was a recovering addict and always has been. He got into drugs at the age of 15, and into smoking and heavy drinking. He said he was a full-blown heady drug addict at the age of 19. He had sort of give up on life, left home and only had the clothes on his back and had to steal or do whatever he could in order to survive. Then, one day his Mom told him she had a place for him to go if he wanted help and came home. And that place was Teen Challenge.

The young man went on to say that he had been told he would not like it the first two weeks. But, after about 4 days, he got into the routine and has liked it ever since. He did get on probation for being caught smoking and said he had to do dishes for 40 days, three times a day. He said it wasn't fun, but he learned his lesson. These young men leave this facility in our community for another one for another 8 months where they will graduate from the year-long program.

The leader of the group was a minister. He said he could identify with these young men, in that he was a graduate of the program 25 years ago. I have been reading some information against Teen Challenge, in that the program didn't work like they say it does. But, I disagree. With this minister having been in the program 25 years ago and come out all of what he had, and lasted this long, the program has to be a good one. These young men were very sincere young men. The 21 year old said this was his first time to give his testimony and he was very nervous. But Teen Challenge had saved his life and got him back in good with his family.

The one thing that those who disagree with the program fail to let people know is that this is a church-oriented program that introduces God into these young men and young women's lives. It doesn't just change their mind about drugs, alcohol, and other abusive things. It changes their hearts and souls, because most of them become a child of God. They learn how to function without all these mind-altering things that reek havoc on them. And one thing the minister said was that not all the participants in the program are teenagers. The ages range from 17 to 47 or so. Most of the guys that came to our church were 19.

This is the second time our church has had teen challenge here. The first time they sent the women's group. But you can tell these young people are wanting to gain acceptance back in the society. So many of them had been turned away from their family and friends because of the abuse. Teen Challenge is helping change many lives and turning them on to Jesus!

John 3:16

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Most of us can quote that verse when we hear someone say John 3:16. But, how often do we see it put on someone's face? Well, tonight, we watched the Football National Championship game in Miami, Florida. The game was between the Florida Gators and the Oklahoma Sooners. Tim Tebow is the quarterback from Florida, the son of missionaries, a Heisman Trophy winner, and he was homeschooled. He is a fine Christian boy and there, under his eyes was the scripture John 3:16.

The Gators started out as Number 2, playing Number 1 for the title. Tonight, they are the National Champions for the third time. And, it was so nice to hear Tim Tebow speak when he received his award at the end. He thanked all the fans who came to Miami to see them play, and the team. Then, he thanked Jesus Christ for the win. To me, this adds so much credibility to his walk with the Lord, and how everyone thinks of him.

A new bed

There comes a time in our lives when we feel like we need a new bed and a new mattress. With so many stores and so many beds, it is sometimes hard to quickly pick out the one that you want to have in your home perhaps the rest of your life.

God on the mountain

God never changes. Word says He is the same 'yesterday, and today, and forever'. (Hebrews 13:8). No matter what happens, He is always there. We often feel that He is no where to be found when we really need Him, but do we actually go to Him when we need Him, or do we rely on ourselves to try and 'fix' things first? God will show up every time you invite Him! If you are a Christian, He is with you every minute, but he's a gentleman. He will not impose himself upon you, if you don't want him. Learn to go to Him first, ask for his guidance in your life daily; He is waiting on you!

Happy New Year 2009

We are ringing in a New Year in just an hour or so. Hopefully, this year will be one in which our expectations are met, lives are changed for the better, and life is all-around great! We have gone through some hard times during 2008, with the economy being very low, many people losing their jobs because of companies either closing or having to cut back. There are so many people just barely hanging on and waiting for better times to come their way. Perhaps this year will bring them a better outlook on life.

Remember that God is ready to listen to you when you call upon Him for your need. In His Word, it says "Philippians 4:19, "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." So, don't give up; there is an answer for you.

We wish each of you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year 2009.

Two Buckets

I read a very interesting comment today online. It talked about the two buckets in life. One if the bucket of blessings and the other is all the things we deem as being unfair to us.

We complain about all sorts of things: the weather, sickness, life in general, our kids, our spouse, our jobs – you get the picture! We seldom gear our minds to focus on all the blessings that God has given to us.

I am sure, if we were to sit down and count our blessings, they far out number those things in the other bucket of life. To be living is a blessing. So many are dying on the streets or in the war as I type.

We complain about our jobs. At least, those of us working have a job! There are countless thousands who do not have a job and nothing in sight for them. Many are being laid off of their jobs now and it could be a long time before they ever get another job with the economy the way it is.

We live in a fairly free country where life is good, although many times we complain about it. We are able to eat, even if we are homeless, if we find a shelter geared to the homeless. Many shelters provide sleeping and eating arrangements for these people.

We have freedom of religion and I have a great church that I enjoy. I love the members and the pastor and his wife. Lots of third world countries don’t allow you to worship as you please. For this, we in the US should be very thankful!

We may not be numbered among the very rich, but we are rich, nevertheless! We have our health, a house to live in that is paid for, a car to drive, children and grandchildren who are healthy and who have never been in trouble.

I am more than rich in that I know Christ as my personal Savior. That is the more important blessing any of us can have in our bucket of blessings! I pray that blessing is indeed in your bucket for the coming new year

She shall be called Woman

God created Adam and then caused him to go into a deep sleep. He removed one of Adam’s ribs and formed a woman, later named Eve.

Genesis 2:23, "And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man."

While reading that scripture tonight, it reminded me of my deceased father-in-law. I often smile when I think about this. But, I never heard him call my mother-in-law anything but ‘the woman’ when he was talking to someone about her. . He would say, ‘tell the woman someone wants her’, or the woman will have to do so and so’. I often wondered how he came about calling her that. Perhaps he read what Adam had said and took it to heart. She was 9 days short of 18 and he lacked 3 ½ months being 17 when they married. They lived together for 66 ½ years until she died. I believe they had a happy marriage and it never bothered her to be referred to as ‘the woman’. It still brings a smile to my face!

Ending the year 2008

There are only three days left in 2008. I know many of us feel like the days, weeks, and months have just flown by. I remember, when I was younger, it seemed Christmas would never get here. Time just hung in space. Now, since I'm older, it seems time passes by entirely too quickly. It seems the summer has just ended and yet, the New Year is about to begin.

Our only granddaughter finished High School in May. She started to work in June and will start college next month. Our son and his wife had their second child, another son, who was born in July. He had to have surgery in November and did great. His brother turned 10 in November, too. Both of our daughter's younger sons play soccer. The youngest played for the Premier traveling team in the fall, then he started playing basketball. The older one is playing inside soccer this Winter. He is also on the Varsity Soccer team at school. They will be playing in the Spring. They have both been here since Christmas, but the younger one had to go home today to be at basketball practice the next two days.

And, today, I had a first! We have had a 3 Wheeler since our daughter was 12. She turned 38 today. Well, the little boys Daddy bought them a 4 Wheeler last summer and it is here in our basement. The chain keeps coming off. The older son was up on the hills riding this afternoon and the chain came off. Now, I've never ridden on the 4 Wheeler and didn't want to, although I love the 3 Wheeler. It is bigger and easier to handle for me. But, there was nobody here to help him get it back to the basement. So, he asked me to come help him. He got the 3 Wheeler and chained it to the front of the 4 Wheeler and off we went. It was scary, not having control of the vehicle you are on! It wouldn't stop quick enough and I was either running beside him, trying to not hit him, or hitting him. And I broke the cover over the back light on the 3 Wheeler by hitting him when I couldn't stop. But, thank goodness we made it down across all those hills, bumps, and between the trees without having a wreck. I know he thinks his Nanny is a poor driver. He kept saying, 'don't get scared', but he's not my age, and he doesn't have a 'bionic' hip! I broke my hip 7 years ago and have a complete hip replacement and I had thought I didn't really want to try that. But I'm glad it's back in the basement and they won't have to go after it when my husband gets home tonight.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful and prosperous year in 2008. And may the Lord bless you with a wonderful life during 2009. Keep Him in your plans and He will surely do that.

Two Days after Christmas

It is now Saturday and we are still eating left overs. I have to admit I am upset because the potato salad didn't last long enough. But the story of that is the fact my son always has to have some to take home. He took more home this year than usual, although his wife doesn't eat it. Then, he came by and ate lunch with us today!

Two of my daughter's sons stayed over with us Christmas night. They are still here but may be going home in the morning. They have been busy playing basketball and riding the three wheeler and four wheeler. There are mountains of red mud that the contractors for the bingo hall had built behind our house and these boys have had a ball riding up and down those mountains and through the red mud! I have been busy washing blue jeans and jackets, trying to get them clean for them to ride again! Thank goodness it's in the 70's here today or they'd be ruining another hoodie! I had a time getting red mud out of one of their grey jackets. The youngest son got a new Alabama hoodie and he had worn it out there and it was splattered with mud. I just knew it wouldn't come out, but, thank goodness it did!

I have been lazy the past two days, only doing what I had to do. I've cooked a little (waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage for supper last night and waffles this morning for the boys), but the rest of the time, it's been leftovers or hot dogs. Tonight, it will be left overs again. I even have some left over chili that I could serve up.

I really need to wash my hair since my beautician didn't work yesterday, but I've been too lazy to do it today. I hate to have to fix it myself anymore. If my beautician ever quits, I don't know what I will do. My grandson also love for her to cut his hair, but she's not in the shop this weekend, so he's missed the chance to get it cut. He has to be home before 3PM Monday for basketball practice, and she doesn't work again until Tuesday. So that's out for him.

Merry Christmas

This is the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. And, I am not politically correct, so I wish you 'Merry Christmas'. May God bless each of you and your families this Christmas with health and happiness. It is not about what we get from everyone, but the way we view life through Jesus. Too many think Christmas is all about gift-giving. I love to give gifts to my kids and grandkids, but that is only a part of this season. The main thing is to remember that God sent His Son that we might live a life without bondage, free in Him, and on the road to eternity with Him and His Son, Jesus. I pray each of you know Him as your personal Saviour this Christmas.

Can Morality be legislated?

No matter how much we would love to see good morals exhibited by everyone on the planet, it will never happen. God gave us free will to do whatever we wanted to do, and many take it to the extreme.

Pornography has a big hold on many of our citizens. But, making it a crime has not made a dent in the number of people who still seek out pornography. Being a Christian does not ensure that a person is free of the addiction to porn. But we Christians need to love those that are addicted, pray for them, and trust God to heal them of the addiction.

Morality can be legislated, but the hearts of men cannot be. Adultery would continue to be practiced regardless of how many laws our government passed. It’s just in man’s secular nature to do things he feels are right for him, regardless of how much it hurts others, or even how wrong it might be by law. A real alcoholic will find some way to drink even if it is unlawful. Many counties in our state are ‘dry counties’, meaning liquor is not sold in any form in those counties. Probably as many people are drinking in those counties as in those counties that are ‘wet’. They just buy it in a wet county and take it over the county line.

The heart of man can only be changed by an inward change through the blood of Jesus. In other words, unless a man’s heart is changed, immorality will continue to reign in his/her heart.

The Truth

While reading the Olive Tree Ministries newsletter today, I came across a great truth which I am putting here on my blog:

The Bible still has all the answers, the Holy Spirit is still active, God will still inhabit the praises of His people, there will still be room at the cross, and Jesus will still return sooner rather than later to the holy city of Jerusalem. There is coming a perfect government -- a Theocracy, under the headship of the King of kings.

So, look up fellow Christians. "There's a God Somewhere" as a favorite song says. He's within you, but he's also coming back for you, and perhaps 'sooner rather than later' as Jan Markell says in her newsletter.

Motivation for shopping

I know women love to shop! Some of us love to 'shop 'til we drop', something I did quite frequently when I was younger. As I've grown 'more mature', I have decided I can do without a day of shopping. I go and look for the things I have gone for and then go home. If I don't find them in a reasonable amount of time, then I go home. I'm not able to keep shopping until the stores close like I once could.

What motivates you to go shopping? Is it the constant crying of your children wanting something new like a computer game or Playstation game? Is it your husband wanting some new clothes? Or, do you just want to go out and do something besides house cleaning or working on the job?

Once, I would go shopping on the drop of a pin. If there was something that we needed, I'd gladly go shopping, even with the kids. Now, though, it's the hardest thing for me to get up, get ready, and just take off shopping. I often put it off until it's almost too late in the day to even be going out. Maybe that's my way of not shopping and spending too much. I have been known, though, to shop all day and to not bring home a thing. Maybe that's the kind of shopping our husbands like so we don't spend more than our budget will allow.

I haven't been motivated to even want to go Christmas shopping yet. I do have Saturday planned for a day of Christmas shopping with my daughter. We did this last year the day before Thanksgiving, but it wasn't possible this year with her and her daughter both working that day. So we are doing it Saturday but I don't know if any of her kids will be with her,though. I do know we'll be making a mad dash through Penneys, considering my husband just told me today they are having to sales on Saturday and the first one starts at 6 AM. I wasn't prepared for that. But we only have two Saturdays before Christmas and I want to get my shopping done. And I also need my daughter to help me shop for her kids.

Here in the United States we are privileged to enjoy the freedom afforded us by our citizenship. But freedom isn't free. So many have laid down their lives for us to be able to say we live in a free nation.

But the one who paid the ultimate price for our freedom was Jesus Christ. He came to earth as the only begotten Son of God in order that each of us might be saved and have eternal life. And, when we make the choice to serve God, then we will know freedom like we have never known freedom before.

The season of love

I call the Christmas Season "the Season of Love"...because God so loved the world he sent his only begotten Son - 'The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us' John 1:14 .

We all love this time of the year, but maybe for different reasons:

We love to buy gifts for our family. We love this cold weather, the experience of snow for the first time. We love the SPIRIT that feels the air through all the holiday music playing everywhere. We LOVE God.

Where do you fit in among those reasons above? Me? I've felt myself become aware of others, their needs, their hurts, fears, joys, anticipations....but do they have love? Do WE have love in our hearts as God wants us to have. We don't have to buy expensive gifts to make others love us. We don't have to go out of our way to have an expensive Christmas, trying to outshine the 'Joneses'.

We only need to show love among our fellow men, the way our God showed us love so many years ago, sending his SON into the world that we might be saved. That's the greatest love that could ever be - by HIS GRACE we can have a new life with him.
