Trio 'Ties Knot' In The Netherlands

Polygamy has become a 'way of life' in the Netherlands! The first threesome shared vows in a civil ceremony last Friday. Victor de Bruijn, along with his wife, Bianca, and their new friend, Mirjam, exchanged rings in the ceremony. Mirjam had recently left her husband and divorced, and began living with the couple. Bruijn says he's completely heterosexual and his 'wives' are both bisexual, so it will be a harmonious union.

The Netherlands was the first country to recognize same-sex marriages. In 1998, civil unions were introduced into law.

Sen. Rick Santorum, R-PA, says the acceptance of same-sex marriages just puts us on a slippery slope. Same-sex marriages now; polygamy on down the road. And, this has happened in the Netherlands.

In June, the president of the American Civil Liberties Union said polygamy is among the "fundamental rights" her organization will continue to defend.

In a brief filed last year by Utah polygamist, Robert Holm, it was said that monogamy is the minority way of life worldwide. Holms had been convicted of unlawful sex with a minor when he married his wife's sister, and had two children by her. He says that polygamy is a constitutional right.

Holm is a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. The Salt Lake City-based Church of Christ of Latter-Day-Saints says it has no connection to the Fundamentalists and officially oppose polygamy.
