The Reason For The Season

What is your reason for the season? As John, at Blogotional says, “It celebrates that which I decide it celebrates.” What a true statement!

Lot of the big stores across the country, including WalMart, Target, and Lowe’s, are becoming politically correct. In order not to offend anyone, they have decided to take Christ out of Christmas. You cannot say “Merry Christmas” to the customers, but you say “Happy Holidays”. And, the Christmas tree is no longer called a Christmas tree. Most Christmas music you hear in the Malls will not be Away In A Manager, or other loved Christmas songs, but you’ll hear secular songs instead. In other words, Christ has been removed, put ‘under a bushel’, in order not to offend. Well, it does offend many Christians!

But, I’ve decided, whether the world recognizes the reason for the season or not, Christ is the reason we are here. I can choose to keep my focus on Him during the holidays, or I can get caught up in all the hullabaloo that goes along with the shopping at this time of year. Oh, I love to shop, but keep it in perspective. This time of year has become so commercialized that people, even Christians, become depressed, anguished, and mean over the inability to keep up with the Joneses’, when it comes to buying things to put under the tree. The stores push this along by having early morning sales. And, this year, one Mall in our area opened at 3AM, in order for those nighttime shoppers to get there and buy what they wanted before the crowd came in. We need to get a handle on spending, get back to the ‘basics’ of the season, which is Christ, the Saviour is alive!!
